Its not a issue with the color. That door has been repaired before. Its a issue exclusive to poor body work and bad prep.

As someone who also was in that awful and morally bankrupt industry, I meter my car whether it's a claimed pristine used car or a brand new car at the dealer.

Car companies paint brand new cars all day long to fix damages. BMW has a ginormous VPC in Oxnard and they paint brand new just offloaded from boat arrived from Germany cars all day everyday.

There is no hiding from paint meter. Either it has been painted, or it has not.

Until I ran my paint meter on my brand new Taco I had no idea Toyota paint was only mid to low 3 mil and some spots barely reached 4.0. That is just unnecessary corner cutting. For reference, Dodge Challengers, yes from the V6 pretender to the hellcat, meter at about low to mid 5 mil. Now that's old school thickness, like what you would find in early 2000 and mid to late 90 BMW's. Now BMW's are down to mid 4's.

Sales guy, "Oh this car is perfect, clean carfax, clean autocheck, owned by an old lady."

Me hitting it with my paint meter.

Me: "There are multiple panels with readings of 12 mils!!!???!!!"

Sales guy: "It' got clean carfax and autocheck, no accidents!"

Me walking away, "thank you for your time."

TLDR, buy a paint meter, meter ALL cars you are going to buy, and walk if there's paint.

I learned that the hard way. I had a small superficial scratch, I taped off the scratched and bought a maguirs buff kit. After buffing out most of it I removed the tape and was left with a square shaped blemish (due to taped area) as I tried to blend it in I notice I had completely burned through the clear coat into my paint. I'm so bummed out. I don't offoroad my trucks paint was prestine up until now. I got a quote to clear coat it $700. Part of me wants to leave it alone the other part really grinds my gear seeing it everyday. But I agree with u it honestly felt like the I buffed through that clear coat effortlessly maybe this explains it since the clear coat and paint was so thinly sprayed at the factory.

How would the OP prove he didnt get a shoddy repair job himself and is now trying to warranty it at the dealer? Wonder how the dealer would handle this?
