If it makes you feel better.
You aren’t the first person to do this.
I can’t find the post, but there was someone else that did the same thing.
But I think it was on the 4.0 Auto truck.

    All good, Carey on man.
    Enjoy your truck:thumbsup:

Glad you got this figured out, & glad all is well with your Taco. Congrats, great little trucks. But now you've got me second guessing myself. I know I've read that "all" reg. cab 4X4 Tacos since "05" or "07" or something came with 4.10 gears, no matter what trans. they have. Now I can't find it. I did find this, a Google search for 2005-2016 Tacoma axel code. My 2013 has the code A02A & that by that chart is a 4.10. Now your dealers service man says 3.58. I searched your tire size (30.5") with 3.58 gears, & @ 70 mph will be running 1932 rpm. From the gear ratio charts, if your taco's tach shows just above 2000 rpm (2177) @ 70 mph, you will have a 4.10 gear, if your Taco's tach shows just under 2000 (1932) @ 70 mph will have a 3.58. Dang this is confusing.

Another odd symptom of COVID-19- inability to find 4th gear! I hope this is your worst symptom. Glad you figured it out and hope you stay on the mend! Enjoy your Taco.

At least it was an easy solution! I had a feeling it was not in OD based on the rpm readings. I'm pretty sure all the 4x4 auto trucks had the 4.10 gears, it would be a real dog with 3:58.

My door sticker shows A02A also, the dealer showed me where the code was. I wrote it down and found a chart on here (Tacoma World) from 2015 posted by a chris4x4. I've been doing some research everything else I've been reading says the 2.7 liter with 4x4 got a 4.10 gear. The only one I read about with a 3.58 was a reg cab 2.7, 2x4. I'm reasonably sure I miss read or missed something on that chart from 2015, I'm very sorry about that.

Regardless my truck runs and drives great now. I want to recondition the undercarriage this summer. There's some surface rust mainly on the axles and knuckles, only a few small spots on the frame. I also noticed the skid plate is missing, someone cut the bolts off flush but that I can fix and replace relatively easy as long as it doesn't require shifting ha ha.

Now that you got that figured out, Rekon your little Taco could use a little more pep?? I've just installed a throttle controller on mine. I've been disappointed with it since I got it a couple yrs. ago. Just seemed weak & sluggish. Not any more, very happy now. Just want folks to know, for me the throttle controller really woke the thing up, like driving a completely different truck. May be worth researching & checking in to.

OK thank you I appreciate the info. I'm used to driving a jeep wrangler 2.4 cylinder with 33" tires. My taco does pretty good compared to the that. I'm used to getting in the right lane with the other herd of turtles. My biggest concern right now is the rising cost of fuel prices. I've noticed my taco is a little piggy on the interstate.

Yeah, these trucks with the 4 speed automatic don't do well with gas mileage. You want to keep it around 65 mph to max out your mpg, running higher speed will hurt the mpg.

A good solution..free! I suspected reading the thread from the start just now you might be doing that..I've put mine in 3rd before not thinking or realizing it.

Same same, though I'm a 2WD that sounded way high

Yup. I can do good enough on mine between 20-24 depending on where, but that's not carrying a transfer case around

I tested this yesterday on my way to work. I have 31" tires.
At 70 MPH my tach is at 2200-2300 RPM.
Stock gears, 4 cylinder, automatic transmission.

    I love the West Coast differential charts. 31" tire, 4.10 gear, auto. W/OD, 70 mph = 2177 rpm... 31" tire, 5.29 gear, auto. W/OD, 70 mph... = 2810 rpm. Also found @ 70 mph., a Manual W/OD will turn appx. 400 rpm higher than an auto. W/OD.
