So I was watching a video on problems 3rd gen's have. The Toyota dealer tech said there is a push fan that the dealer can add for poorly preforming a/c systems. This is because the clutch fan can not provide enough air flow for the a/c system, is what he said. I doubt the dealer offers this for 2nd gen, but the 2 gens are very similar. So I was thinking, if there is a way or a kit that I can add this for those super hot summer days. If so what parts do you guys suggest? Have any of you guys done this?

I have a 15 and from day one I thought the AC had a problem and that was based on my my 1st gen Tacoma ac that blew cold at the low setting. I figured, typical new vehicles, pay more, get less.

Ended up my condenser from factory had a leak and since I hardly used it, it took me two summers to figure it out. Now it’s fine and blows cold after condenser replacement. Have a shop put a set of manifold gauges on it and check it out. I say your low on R 134a and you may have a leak also.

My 3rd gen never had a problem blowing cold, even during stop and go traffic on 105+ days. No push fan needed.

As the above poster said, have a health check done on the system first. Also use windshield sunshades and crack a window when it's parked, so it doesn't have to work as hard cooling a cab that's been roasting at over 130 F.

Yes, but I have full a/c and it was checked by the dealer. On super hot days it feels only a little cold compared to my wife's car. So being the 3rd gen is based on the same idea I think the truck can benefit from adding a push fan for these hot days.

A fan is not going to make your AC colder.

I recommend that you also sound deaden your interior. Not only does it reduce outside noise, it acts as insulation.

To expand on this comment, if your ac blows cold while you're driving and then won't blow the least bit cold while stopped, AND it's worse than what the typical car experiences, that's when a fan is needed.

If it's blowing hot all the time, then no, a fan won't help.

The OPs complaints about AC not cooling are typical for a malfunctioning ac system. I know he said he had it checked. But I think he didn’t get a good diagnosis. If it was really a design problem with 2nd gen. we would have all known by now.

Looking back at the posts, I'm starting to wonder. Is it not cooling the cab at all, or is it just not as cold as your other car?

If it's the second, that's just differences in design and there's nothing to fix. Some cars will take a good 30 minutes before the cab is tolerable, others will put frostbite on your nuts in 5. The tacos are somewhere in the middle of that. Mine takes about 10-15 minutes to get the cab down to room temp after sitting in a parking lot in August. That's where yours should be too.

If it isn't, take it to an AC specialist.

AC not working as well when stopped is also partially caused by a clutch fan setup. Say your doing 50 mph, ac working great, plenty of air flowing over rads. Without much help from the fan. Then you stop, fan clutch still not locked up becasue engine water has to heat up enough to heat the radiator that then "air" heats the fan clutch before it starts spinning at engine speed. That can take a couple minutes. In the mean time, the ac condenser is not getting enough air flow to stay cool. UNTIL the fan clutch kicks in.
I'm toying with the idea dumping the clutch fan for a straight drive fan of some sort. Which will help some, probably not as much as a fan directly on the condenser would help. But no wiring or switches, etc.

The 2nd gen Tacoma IMO has a weak max blower setting or should I say, it almost sounds restricted. Even when the A/C system if fully functional healthy and with or without the cabin air filter installed. What really helps is to get tint if you haven't. (especially if you live in a very sunny area) I've said it before but compared to other similar vehicles the blower performance is not optimal if you live in a truly hot part of the world.

I stayed down in Missouri for a few weeks during summer a couple years back to help a family member move and while it was waaaaay more humid than here in AZ, the temps didn't surpass 100 deg F, which helped a ton. The A/C performance in the Taco was more than adequate there even without a tint job. Coming back to Tucson however, right back into those 100 deg F+ days was right back to feeling underwhelming. The high sun exposure is what really seems to do it for certain regions, this is why I push tint so much.

    Just my 2cents
