Wireless Android Auto is working on my new PX6 Dasaita

Just got mine hooked up last night and know next to nothing about it, havent had a chance to do much with it yet other than BT pair my phone (samsung s21) and connect to wifi. I've only ever seen that wireless carplay works, but no reference to AA, so I wasn't even looking for it. It didn't happen immediately upon pairing, but later after I started the truck for the second time with the Dasaita installed, it popped up the zlink "waiting" screen, and the phone popped AA. It didn't work on the first attempt, but after rebooting the phone it connected wirelessly. Never had AA before, but it seemed to do what I expected, other than Amazon Music didn't work, but that could be because someone else was streaming it and AA doesn't handle that error message well.

Bought this one, but I will admit to being confused by all the models. It's a PX6 with android 10, happy to provide build numbers or whatever if someone wants to compare.

Fortunately the original owner included the stock HU even though he had already replaced it with a Pioneer (which was then replaced with the Dasaita), so I had the factory metal brackets and all the little yellow clips. Almost pitched it before I ever heard of Dasaita. Someone else around here suggested drilling out the 3 dimples on the factory brackets so they sit flush, which was stupid easy, they pop right off. Then they suggested using one of the new holes for the screw, but i couldn't get it lined up right, so i drilled another small hole about a quarter inch off one of the dimples. That lined it up well enough for the 2 top holes where the brackets attach to the dash, but not the bottom, so I drilled out on top of those holes, maybe 3/4" of the hole diameter. Popped right in and all four bolts are tight. Those little yellow clips are important to keep it snug, but i don't see them mentioned too much. All wiring was plug and play except i had to figure out how my aftermarket (but not dasaita) rear cam was powered. Took a couple hours, but most of it was figuring this out, I didn;t have too much trial and error. My first HU install, but I was able to get it done, so anyone can do it.

I'm missing something, that thread refers to wireless carplay, not wireless Android Auto? I searched and didn't see any reference to it other than people asking about it. I wouldn't be shocked to find out this was already old news, but I hadn't seen it before.

 

It may not be in there. Towards the end I was barely reading the posts. There might be a dongle required. I never really saw the sense of Android Auto on that headunit because everything was already there. If you set it up like your phone as far as apps and accounts you'd get everything that Android Auto was capable of and a little more.

 

Yeah. That makes sense and was my original plan except I'm having trouble getting past the privacy issues of these things. Not real excited about sharing my Google creds and was going to set up a throwaway, but AAW is a nice surprise as it allows me to have my real info on the screen in the short run while I figure out whether it's worth setting up firewall and vpn apps.

 

It's definitely concerning. I didn't do it because of that. Only thing I use AA for is navigation on my current headunit. And even that is rare because of the way headunits tend to treat AA as a separate source.
