The answer the body shop gave you sounds like the only logical explanation to me , maybe Toyota would understand now . Worth another try .

Maybe. I just want it fixed at this point and sucked it up. The guy at the body shop got nervous when I told him that him saying it was possibly a factory defect was going to leave me in a bind with Toyota and my insurance company pointing fingers at each other (I didn't know the cost and was expecting it to be a lot higher), and he told me they absolutely wouldn't testify for me. I understood and told him I wasn't looking for them to do that - just didn't want to be left holding the bag if it was more expensive. He said we'd probably still be able to go the insurance route as it could have been a chemical that took off the top layer and exposed the uncured stuff underneath.

Meh, I'm done fighting. Just opening the wallet and getting it taken care of at this point.

I thought about doing something like that, but it's turning into a gooey, greasy, mess down there. That's not quite worth a grand for someone else to deal with it, but, well, I guess I'm paying the money, so it is worth it to me.

Like the Gambler said, "You gotta know when to hold them and know when to fold them". It sounds like you have exhausted all reasonable avenues, on to the next fight. Hopefully whatever caused your issue doesn't come back.

Yeah, i just hope the other side doesn't start deteriorating in the near future. That's a bridge I'll cross when I get to it, though.

If something happens again I’d prob go with LineX or something similar. Plus you can get colors that match the body nowadays. I believe it is a lot more resistant to chemicals as well. Whatever got on there was pretty serious because most factory paint on vehicles are baked after the paint is applied.

Yeah, if it happens again and I don't just unload the truck, I'll consider that. I might just go with black, though, since I think it'd fit with the overall black and white scheme it already has.
