Toyota SafteySense aftermarket?

Hey everyone, I was wondering if it was possible to have Toyota SafetySense installed in my 2017 TRD Off road. I didn’t get it when I originally bought the truck, but I figured I’d ask here.

You didn't get it because it was not available on the 2017 models. It started with the 2018 models

 

Really? I was told by my dealer when I bought it that it was an additional package on my 17.

 

It WAS introduced and did come on SOME model of Toyotas for 2017, but NOT on the pickups. here is a link to an article that details this:

BSM came with the Prem or Tech package in 2017. I can't remember which one.

TSS-P is impossible to add to older Tacos or impossible to delete from newer Tacos.

 

So would it be possible to add BSM to my Tacoma?

Not really. The harness connectors might be there, but you'd need the expensive sensors, mirrors, ECU, and some way of activating it. There are probably more parts than that which would be needed.

Myself, I'm thrilled without the gizmos and have my mirrors set properly. If you really want it, it is weird to say, but it would be easier to trade Tacos in the end.

Also note that both BSM and the parking sensors are stupid vulnerable and easily damaged off road.

 

I remember too, that because 2017s don't have TSS, they have this unique thing where they are in demand because of NOT having TSS. It depends on one's thoughts on it. I am about middle of the road on it, because while there are things I don't like about it, I do have to say that the BSM is great, along with the rear sensor that detects things in the rear. But at the same time, I absolutely HATE the DRCC [Dynamic Range cruise Control]. I just depress the button for a few seconds and use the classic cruise control. MUCH BETTER!

Oh yeah, because 2017s didn't have TSS, that is why when people buy the aftermarket Pro Grills, those that have 2017 do not need the sensor cover, they can use the grill as it is without putting in the sensor cover.

With side mirrors set properly and the wide angle reverse camera, life is good, IMHO.

 

Adding the simple "Anytime Backup Camera" mod is practically a must. You press a button anytime you want to see what's behind you.

 

Yessir. I got that and the front camera. Although after three year, the front is fogged with moisture intrusion.

 

Plus the wide angle mirrors. Heaps better

I recently got some Spotter mirrors. The aimable convex section is quite nice.

 

Premium and Tech was one single package in 2016 and 2017, starting in 2018 they went separate.

Good info. ACLBs only had the choice of one of those, I think?

 

I think it was still both in one but just minus the sunroof.
