My new loaded 6MT TRD OR 4x4 will be here June 1st or thereabouts and I'm going back and forth on having the dealership install the OEM Tacoma TRD Pro 16" wheels (the newest version on the 2020/21 models) as soon as the truck arrives and prior to me picking it up. If I were to go that route I could sell the TRD OR wheels as practically new to someone. Eventually, if I stay with a 16" wheel I'll want to upgrade the tires slightly to say a 265/75/17 all-terrain tire for a meatier look and more capability.

While the price of the new Tacoma TRD Pro 16" matte black wheels is palatable, if they just so happen to weigh significantly less than the TRD OR silver/black wheels than I'll feel justified going with a 1" taller tire as the weight gain would cancel itself out with lighter wheels.

That’s basically what I just did to my truck. Installed the pro wheels(little under 22lbs) with a 265/75-16 tire. I believe the OR wheels are 25ish pounds so you save some weight there. When it was all said and done I only gained about 1 pound at each corner by going with the lighter pro wheel and going up a size in tire. Truck still rides and accelerates the same as before, plus mpg stayed the same. Just what I was looking for.

Awesome! This seems like the best plan to me as doing the Pro wheel at delivery and selling the "new" OR wheels while keeping the stock tires for a while would allow me to only spend about $500-$600 net for a nice little upgrade.

Are you stock suspension? Any issues rubbing or clearance whatsoever with the 265/75 tire on 16s?

Yeah stock suspension. No rubbing at all. Fills in the wheel well just right.

You da man! I think you helped me make my decision. I posted in my state sub-forum here with a feeler for someone picking up the OR wheels so hopefully I can recoup at least half my cost with this project.

OR wheels are 16" and 265/75R16 fits fine stock. You bought the wrong vehicle if weight is a concern. :)

Buy the wheels you like. A few pounds either way won't matter. I've been using 265/75/16's for years with zero issues on my 2007. If anything the newer trucks appear to have a bit more room for them.

I'm on my 5th set of tires. I've had P series in 265/70/16 and both P and E rated tires in 265/75/16. They have weighed between 38 lbs and 55 lbs each. Fuel mileage has remained exactly the same. If you don't want to kill fuel mileage avoid the more aggressive mud tires. And avoid anything over 265mm wide.

Just went from 2019 trd pro wheels with E rated bfg KO2s 265/75/16 total weight per corner about 80lbs and now went with SL 265/70/16 with kmc Roswell wheels. Total weight per corner is now roughly 60lbs.

I can tell you 20 lbs a corner savings makes a huge difference. I was constantly revving out my truck up hills with the e rated and now it doesn’t work hard at all. My mpg went up more than 3mpg average as well. So glad I went with the 22 lb Roswell wheels. https://fb.watch/5dyCGrNoI5/
You’ll love the lightweight 2020 trd pro wheels as they are even a little lighter!
