The sending units in the stems have batteries, they die. 2021 seems early though so probably something else.

From what i’ve read, sensors don’t need to ‘wake up’. If an individual sensor doesn’t work it’s usually because the sensor battery is dead (doubtful on a 3yr old truck) Any decent shop can scan each wheel with a TPMS tool will tell you if they’re working and how much battery life is left. Easiest guess is that the new sensors they installed aren’t compatible with your truck.

I have sensors in both sets of my stock and winter rims (I bought the extra OEM sensors for about $25/sensor). 3rd Gen’s computers only remember four sensor ID’s at a time so whenever I switch tires/rims, I have to reprogram the four new sensor ID’s into the truck using my scan tool (or TechStream)

I don’t remember exactly, but once the new ID’s are programmed and the reset button on the dash is pushed, the truck needs to be driven over a certain speed (30mph I think??) for 10mins+ in order for the truck to recognize the new sensors.

I’m following out of curiosity. Bought mine used in ‘17 from a dealer so I don’t know if they replaced the stems when they put new rubber on along with a cheap 24F. I put new shoes on last fall and no new sensors. It just seems odd that the computer would forget registered sensors without others being overwritten and I know disconnecting the battery doesn’t do it. Either something new to learn here or the batteries failed(only one need do so to trigger the light).

    Maybe the spare?

Or one is damaged. It's not uncommon for them to be damaged when mounting or un mounting tires. The sensors are typically about 3-5 year battery life so it wouldn't be surprising if one or more died. It's a good idea to replace with new when changing tires unless they were recently replaced. Spending another $150-200 sucks but having to pay for unmounting/remounting, balance in addition to be sensors sucks way more.

Try driving 30 miles at hi-way speeds before going to the dealership. My 16 and 19 took awhile to recognize them there or gone. I ran two sets of tires.

No remounts though, just entire wheel/tire swaps so I think damage less likely unless storage somehow froze or cooked a sensor battery.
