I would definitely not recommend doing that. I've seen people do it that way, and the nut can come off and the bolt slides out leaving you in big trouble. It's not that hard to remove and reinstall the bolt the proper way. I've personally seen one truck have the uca come off, but if you search around this forum, it's pretty common if you install the bolt backwards. Just a heads up. You might be totally fine, but just a word of warning.

It can be done that way. You have several choices of ensuring the nut does not come off:

Measure and drill a small hole in the bolt beforehand and install a SS cotter pin just behind the nut

Locate and use a nylon metric locknut instead of the factory nut

Add a second nut to each bolt as a locknut, use red loc tite.

Any of these methods will secure the nut.

Sure they will. Or you could spend an extra 5 minutes and do it the right way. Even nylocks and red loctite can fail and loosen. Better to have gravity keep the bolt in at the same time. But life is a choose your own adventure, so you can do whatever you like.

Your posting nothing more than scare tactics and trolling.

 I don't know what you think my agenda is?

I literally work on off-road Toyota's for a living and have seen these nuts loosen off, even double nutted. Just sharing my experience, but suit yourself! You're the one that pulled up this thread from 6 months ago just to say your piece. :bananadead:

Not saying it will happen, just that if it does, better to have the bolt in the right way.

More scare tactics huh? Look up stover nut.

Have you ever used one? An added metric stover nut properly torqued is not going to loosen.

Seen some horrible fender hack jobs.

Guess you lay awake at night worrying the sky is falling.

Yep my long travel is all Stover nuts! Still put the bolt in the right way though! Sounds like you're just lazy.

Anyway I'm done here, see ya

Not lazy. I don't bend up and damage sheetmetal if I don't have to unlike you.
