I'm closing in on close to $10k in upgrades to my Gen 2. I had a close-call driving yesterday, was almost t-boned, and it got me thinking about what would happen insurance-wise given 1/3 of my truck value is in aftermarket additions (suspension, skids, topper, other misc.)

I have Geico and went to add my modifications and their values yesterday... it almost tripled my premium. On one hand, I want my insurance to cover my shit if I get in an accident, but an extra $160/month is a hard pill to swallow.

What are y'all with heavily modified trucks doing for insurance?

Sub... not heavily modded but I’m definitely telling the tow truck driver to drop it off my house.. so I can part it out.

I haven't added extra insurance for mine. It's smart too, but I don't really have any expensive mods, lot of little things that could easily be replaced. With the money I don't pay for the added insurance I could easily re-do everything cheaper than what was paid for insuring. Again, that's with minor mods. I would imaging it would be different for people who have put in $20-$30K into a truck

Sounds like money that could be better spent on mods. Maybe if the truck was built by a dealer and already had a ridiculous MSRP.

You can try another insurance company. Let us know if there is a “significant” difference.
