I've spent 3 nights in the SP camper and getting closer to figuring out how I want to lay out the interior.
Funny how everything changes when you have full side access to the truck bed.

Lights, battery, charge controller, fuse block, solar panel are in. Love the wiring chases in the fuselage. Tons of options there.

For bedding, I haven't had much luck leaving more than a couple blankets up top, and those needed to be folded flat and thin first.
I do wish there was an extra inch of space for bedding, but a cubby down below for bedding when packing up works fine.

When closing it up, I leave the bottom zipper on the side doors open to let air out and top zippers fully shut to keep the fabric in the right place.
Back door zippers don't matter so much since bottom is open, so I leave it shut so fabric stays put.

I'm also curious why no bottom zipper on the back door. I was in some heavy wind and rain, and wouldn't mind sealing that up a bit better.

Unless mattress is too inflated or I'm leaving too much bedding up top, it all closes pretty well. Sometimes the black fabric sticks out a bit, but a couple judo chops and it's good. Can do it all from the back.

I haven't run a fan yet, but did get some condensation on the ceiling panel, and under the mat a little bit on the sides.
All top vents were open, and that seems to have kept it under control.

A few leaks to check out further, but nothing too serious or unexpected.

Just got back from my install and ramble down the coast. I’ll post a more complete first impression when I have a chance, but I wanted to weigh in on the tent closing strategy.

When I was at SP I asked for a full demo of how they think the tent should best be closed. First off, the mattress should be as deflated as possible. I fold it in half, lay on it, then fold it in quarter and lay on it. I’d say it’s 70% deflated at that point. As I’m lowering the tent I “karate chop” the sides several times, not worrying too much about the back at that point. The idea is to get the sides as neatly folded as possible. Forgot to add I have all windows completely closed, with the air escaping through the bottom of the rear window. Also, I discovered that you can’t have the air vent “extenders” on the upper vents deployed at all. They in particular will cause a problem. So, with all that in place and flat, and when the top starts to get to that point where it’s not pulling up or down, I tuck the rear portion in as neatly as I can, and keep “karate chopping” the sides as I slowly lower it the rest of the way. There’s a point where it’s open about 6 inches where hurrying will cause the air pressure to push some of the fabric out, so I slow down, making sure I have absolutely no fabric sticking out. Then I check the sides to make sure they’re pretty flat on both sides. If one is higher than the other, then some part of the tent got pinched, and I open it up about 6-10 inches and check. When it’s as flat as possible I have to press my forearm on top of the latch area to latch it. Without pressure it won’t latch. I think it’s the rubber seal I’m pressing at that point, not any tent material. A couple of times the latches didn’t line up perfectly with the slots, and I discovered the rear portion of the tent had bunched up on one side, and I had to redistribute it. So I think the basic theory is to keep the tent material as flat and neatly folded as possible. This sounds like a lot of work but by the end of my trip it was pretty easy and only took a minute or two. Hope that helps.

Next subject: shell door latches that don’t stay fully latched or don’t open at the same time.

Not sure why I haven't asked this yet, but are there any SP owners in Arizona yet? Would love to check one out in person. Expo is coming through like usual this year but it isn't until September. Not even sure if they will have anyone representing there anyways.

I’ve had both my side vents opened (tensioned) and closed since I picked it up. Peter and I looked at it during closing and it all seemed to be fine. I haven’t seen any issues with mine having them like that. I think it actually helps with closing, let’s the air escape

Open vents, run a fan. I use that 12v one I posted a while back and have it pointing directly out one of the vents. It also gives a bit of white noise which is sweet if you're not in a dead silent area.

I've done this every time since my first weekend and have minimal if not zero condensation with two humans and two dogs. Air circulation does wonders!

I've had super good luck with Boeshield T-9 lubricant. I keep both a drip bottle and a spray bottle in the truck but have only had to apply it once so far. Since it dries and creates a coating, it's less likely collect dirt/muck that other lubes tend to do which only creates more grit. After my first weekend where my blue latches were freezing up I lubed them and have zero issues since with most of my camping having been winter/below freezing (including decent storms etc).

I think I'm at around 18-20 days in my setup so far and I'm super happy with the product. I've noticed a few little quarks but the team has been very responsive and ultimately I accept that's part of being in the first thirty units.

What are you running for your heat?
Awhile back you were investigating a different solution. Did you install it?

I might add... the tent is structurely sound for activities on upper levels. Very, very solid.
In general the whole sleeping platform is very sturdy, a nice change form my RTT on roof rack config.

Well done, good research for science!

I have not fully tested the structure, but my rear leafs are squeaking a bit.

I’ll try that again. I had trouble closing one day and noticed that the vent tensioners were open. I closed them and it helped but it could have been something else in the first place. Good to know I can keep them open, because it does help with air pressure when closing.

Speaking of, I need new leafs ASAP.
My truck is flexing out on tiny rocks because they are so overloaded.

Right now I'm just using a 15F sleeping bag and a wool blanket as needed. I'm hoping to have a propane fireplace in there by next winter, but with it warming up it's less urgent. I've got all the stuff just have to have a bracket made and drill a big ass hole in the door.

rokblox or skinnier tires will be beneficial to you.

yeah, y’all stop using WD40 as a lubricant. T-9 lubricant or some dry silicone lubricant is much better for the exposed moving parts.

Lol... I was just thinking of going back to 255/85 since I have to be so backspaced now.
Some mudflaps would help though as well, might do that actually.

Can you wax this powder coat ?
I don’t wax my truck but am starting to look into it for UV purposes here in CA. I wanna keep this guy for a while and I been abusing the paint (on truck). I also wanna protect the X1 since I’m not convinced black powder coat will keep its luster over years of sun.

The longest part is sitting there waiting for the camper to go on. They weren't quite done installing the tent material in the frame when I showed up...
