We have a rooftop tent that also has an awning that stretches to the other side. Love the idea of the hatch!
    Thank you!

    Work in progress

Had a buddy who had a Tacoma (fully outfitted for off road) and he just put on that Mountain Hatch. We all chipped in and bought him this Campmate Chuck Box. He loved it. And, of course, a nice bottle of scotch for the cupholder on the Mountain Hatch. He was, dare I say, a happy camper:

Anyone suggested the ‘custom’ large bottle (nalgene-sized) holders? These were another great addition to my truck I found on here… post #1 here mentions Taylor and the modified holders she makes. I got one for each side of my console, and I’m so happy our bottles aren’t flying around the truck anymore :)

FYI. He is on this forum. Saw your same pic posted on the “what have you done to your 3rd gen” thread.

to stay on topic. My vote is for the bed mat and husky floor mats. If he likes keeping q clean rig, maybe some detailing products like chemical guys.

i recently did this. I have a 64oz yeti growler and I came across this mount for it at Cabelas. Now I don’t have to worry about it rolling around when I’m out on the trails

As @Key-Rei mentioned, some upgraded fogs would be a great idea. They are an item that helps give the truck a subtle modded look, but most importantly are highly functional for street use and a big improvement over stock. They are not too expensive as far as truck mods go and reasonably simple to install.

I would recommend the selective yellow fog color option, the Sports are great fogs but if you are somewhere that it snows the Pros would be better to prevent freezing. If money is no object, the Maxes are the highest performing fogs on the market by far.

Here are some other more practical ideas that aren’t that expensive...

AVS Bug guard or OEM bed lights

Meet him at the door in a teddy and a gift card for something you both can share and enjoy with the truck. You said you like camping, and other things. Many of the things mentioned are less expensive than others. But the 2 of you can make the choice together, as you both seem to enjoy the truck. My bride and I wanted a 6' box but it wouldn't fit in the garage. So we are getting a small enclosed trailer. She's with camping, everything and the kitchen sink.

    Yes
I assume he has plans for wheels but on the off chance those off road wheels look pretty good powder coated, hell even rattle canned. If not bed and floor mats are great. Lot of great after market fog lights that are easy to install. Check out the ss3 diode dynamics. Also didn’t happen to look or notice where you’re located but if you’re up north or by the coast fluid filming the frame is a good idea. Best of luck and clearly you know the way to a mans heart. Best of luck.

Arrange something with @AY_ARONTRD for a switch panel with electrical panel to control all his after market lights and other doo dads. It will be far more useful than both of you realize.

Get the OEM tailgate lock it is plug and play, no splicing wires. Comes with heat shield and metal zip ties for running it next to the muffler.

There is one for the short bed and one for the long bed, just make sure you get the right one. Short bed linked.

Trucks a ‘21. Got it from my dealer, which was actually cheaper than anywhere else. It fits/screws on perfectly fine (use some locktite as well).
I believe that it’s originally an FJ Cruiser shift knob.
There’s more info in the ‘show me your knob thread’ on here.

As a member of Search and Rescue, I will say those Garmin GPS devices with the emergency beacon and texting are absolutely worth it if you are remote without other vehicles (or even with them).

I have a friend who regularly uses his and has the SAFETY plan. You get unlimited preset messages. He sat down and wrote out everything he thought he might need and entered them into the device and had a bunch of presets still available. Mainly things like: Arrived at camp, leaving camp, driving, heading home, stopped for lunch. Just common things so he could check in with his wife/family. With the 10 minute tracking intervals you wouldn't have to worry if he didn't move for 40 minutes if he said "stopped for lunch". And in case of emergency, just use the SOS. It works. Already been a couple missions this year where someone used a personal locator beacon and it makes the SAR Response much quicker and easier for all parties. The Search part isn't necessary, and can get straight to the Rescuing.
