I'm headed out this Saturday for my first birding of the spring migration. We did have a light coating of snow this morning though.

The picture is not the best so it is difficult to see features that would more easily distinguish a specific flycatcher. It looks like a female vermilion flycatcher but the range may not support that choice. Might be a willow flycatcher.

    Yup!

You can tell by the darker grey face compared to the lighter grey of a western. White chin/throat unlike a western. White tipped tail unlike a western, and the outer tail feathers are not white like in a western. All ID marks are visible in the photo.

Got this rare shorebird today while doing surveys for work.

Hint 1 - it is not a yellowlegs, but is around the size of a lesser yellowlegs.

hint 2 - found anywhere in the lower 48 only during spring and fall migrations (does not breed or overwinter in lower 48); itinerant migrant

Looks like a sandpiper, but can't pinpoint exact breed

    Edit, is it a willet?

Willett, no. They are found in lower 48 as breeders and winter-residents (hint 2), and are bigger then lesser yellowlegs (hint 1).

    Sandpiper, yes.

I'll revive the thread, here's one that came out during the coldest winter day that Louisiana had last winter.
