It looks pretty cool on some cars but as a safety precaution, I would have to say no to this. If you get in a rear end collision, guy could claim he didn't see your brake lights, which is a valid argument in a report.

And there's the kicker "shouldn't reduce" means there's still a loss in light output. Even two pieces of clear glass will affect light output. Layers are never good when you want to get the most light output.

I love when people say “ I’ve had mine done for years and no accidents or problems”. It is a risk and high one at that and if you want to be stuck with a $30k plus paperweight that’s on you. There is a reason it is illegal in states and if you want to play Russian roulette with your insurance company that is your problem.

But when the time does come and you make a post on TW asking if your truck is totaled because you got rear ended don’t expect people to come to your defense because the “idiot” behind you couldn’t see your taillights or turn signal.

Black taillights in front of me on a sunny day, all I see is black, even at the stop light, yeah…that’s a great idea, should be a sticky.

Mods? We don't need no stinking mods.
    He'll no.

If you do anything to your tail lights, do something to make them brighter to give other drivers even more notice that you're stopping. Put in some aftermarket LEDS, but leave the lenses alone.

I'd pass on smoking headlights and tail lights, it's just an excuse for law enforcement to pull you over and harass you for something stupid.

Keep in mind, smoked tail lights are actually illegal in some places. You may want to look into that before you do through with it. The shop will likely still do it though. Legality doesn't stop shops in my area from tinting the front windows or dealerships from selling them that way.

    Maybe not too much.

Your full accessory package has sort of an unmarked vehicle or rent-a-cop vibe.

Shoot the wheels black and add a couple of discreet stickers supporting your local LEOs and you should be golden.

As stupid as smoked tail lights are on a Tacoma, some people are even more stupid and install smoked tail lights on their motorcycle. Adolescent stupidity is everywhere.

Black housing with a clear lens looks good. Since the lens is clear all lights have the same visibility as stock. I've seen them on 2nd gens all the time. Dont know if they make them for the 3rd gens.

As a motorcycle rider......being seen is critical.

Lights play an important part in being seen. In truth, it doesn't matter if 2 or 4 wheels.....being seen is critical.

Too many ID10Ts with their attention anywhere but on the task of driving.

Thanks just the same. I suggest to keep all lights fully functional without diminishing the light output.

FWIW, I do a "light check" on a frequent basis. Just looking for burnt out bulbs or other problems with the lights.

On a legal side. The FMVSS defines the light output, color, minimum size, angle of visibility.....and such for all signal lights on a motor vehicle. Manufacturers adhere to this code to allow sales in the USA. Most DMV and State laws follow the FMVSS. If an LEO stops you for some reason, he has just cause to write citations for equipment violations.
