Installing Inverter in Cab

Hey all,
Hoping this is the right place to ask so here goes.

I just purchased a

$162 Renogy 1000W Pure Sine Wave Inverter with ECO Mode, 12V DC to AC 120V 110V Converter for Off-Grid Solar System, Home, RV, Solar Power Inverter with Remote Switch, Surge 2000W

Renogy 1000W Pure Sine Inverter and I want to install it somewhere in the cab. I have a 2017 Tacoma with a double cab. Im wondering if anyone has any suggestions as to where in the cab is a good install location that won't be awkward or in the way. Also, looks like I'll be running 2AWG wire from my second battery (house 100A LifePO4) that's under the hood. I had originally considered putting the inverter in the bed but don't feel good about running that long a line from the battery.

Seems like the best place would be behind the rear seat, either mounted to the plastic cubby or to a carpet covered piece of plywood or molle panel you install after removing the cubby. In the under seat storage compartment would be good also, but you probably need more airflow to keep that thing cool. The noise from the ventilation fans would make me install it as far away as possible.

 

Other option would be under one of the seats similar to how you would install a subwoofer amplifier. I have an inverter that I plan to install as well, I just haven't gotten around to it and haven't really looked at locations yet.

 

I would park it under the pax seat, working face lined up with the rear edge, so that its still accessible to reach.




Is it just me or have inverters gotten stupid expensive lately? Seems like not too long ago I could pick up a 1000W for less than half that.

 

Under the Passenger seat would be ideal, not sure I have the room to make that work though.

Agreed, very expensive. However, last time I shopped inverters, years ago, I didn't understand sine wave tech at all. Could be Pure Sine has always been a lot more.

It's good for some things, but it's also marketing. Your house isn't pure sine. Most electronics can take a certain degree of dirty power. The only item I've seen that really, truly needed a clean sine wave was the scanning electron microscope I have at the office. Besides that my air conditioner and TV need *mostly* clean power, everything else can run on dirty.

 

In the whiskey compartment behind the rear seat or under the passenger seat. There is about 1 din of usable space under the console too but the size of a 1k may not fit.

 

Im afraid if I put in the compartment behind the rear seat it will not get enough airflow and overheat. Also, plugging anything into it would be more challenging. That would otherwise be a very good spot.

From that thread:

"There are two large torx head screws under the plastic trim on each side

take the screws out, flip the bar, and bolt them back in ( they screw right into the end of the bar)

there is an alignment tab on the bar that you may need to grind down a hair to get it back in there"

There are several other examples of TW members doing it, I just didn't dig any deeper. I might have read about it in the Audio & Video sub-forum.

 

I Understand. I have a spare battery with charger and a 50 watt ham radio there. It gets hot but would shut off if too much and never has.
