Hi, I have a 2002 Tacoma Prerunner with a rusted differential. It's leaking. What other complete rear end will bolt up? I'm hoping for a newer one with disc brakes. It's 6 bolt & a 4:55 ratio. I'd like a ratio of 3:??. The truck is just street driven. Any help would be appreciated. Thank you, Tom

No Toyota trucks have disc brakes so you’re out of luck. Best bet for what you want would be get an FJ cruiser or 4runner rear axle and grind off the old spring mounts and weld new spring perches on. You’ll get disc brakes, the 8.4” rear ended with a truss across the bearing caps.

Aside from the above comment being accurate, are you *sure* it's 4.55?

That wasn never a factory option.

4.56 was but those are pretty rare.

For the first gen there is:

    Auto v6 4x4 4.30
    Manual v6 4x4 4.10
5 lugs with the 4cycl and 2.4 usual were the only ones to come with 4.56 unless special ordered.

    But there's outliers for sure.

If you're not 4x4 it won't matter as much.

3.73 comes in the 2nd gens but that is an awfully high ratio.

If you already have 4.56 I wouldn't go any higher than 4.10.

What size tires are you running?

Where is your rear end leaking from?

    How bad is the rust?

Can you not just pull the 3rd and put a new gasket in with the red FIPG?

The ratio is 4.56 according to the jamb sticker. Code BO4A. The truck is a 2002 extended cab Prerunner with 16" 6 bolt wheels, 2.7 4 cyl. automatic. The rust is bad enough for the gear lube to leak out where the pumpkin bolts to the housing. Tires are 265/70R16. There are brackets that were welded to the housing that are just hanging loose because they have rusted off. I'd like to buy a complete rear end with a 3.58 ratio Code BO2A or a 3.91 ratio Code BO6A. I need help finding the rear end I need. Thanks

well you won't be getting disc brakes with that desire unless you swap them in aftermarket. Your best bet is a pick n pull.
