I think they lost a lot of possible customers this way. The Honda was pure turd with those covered wheels. Looking back though, a number of first gen offerings came out of the chute not wearing their Sunday best. The 200SX was gross the first year. The Tundra had to wait longer. I expect that many will springboard off existing popular designs but there will probably some Edsels out there and some that become collectible simply due to a lack of popularity, go figure. But looking around most of the hybrids I see are only distinguishable by the badging so don’t give up all hope.

I wonder if they'll offer an electric conversion package for our trucks. I'd jump all over the that!

Likely couldn’t compete on range. Pretty much everything behind the wheels is different so the compromise would be where the tie in is done. Easiest kit might be to lose the entire drive train, exhaust, and tank and put in a single motor rear axle drive unit with all of the batteries up front. PS, PB, AC/heat would be separate systems but the computers and harness would still be a headache.

Yeah, lol. Actually pretty good one to for the most popular vehicles and a taco will be generous on room to work once you consider what gets removed. It may make more sense to move the spare to the engine bay to free up all of the frame space for cells and make the kit more localized. It will probably boil down to which models are easiest to do and end up working reliably. Converting to regenerative braking is another can of worms but could probably be part of any FWD or AWD conversion.

If the country is going to 100% EVs, how does anyone drive a 1000 lb load of anything 300+ miles away while having the heat or A/C on? You can’t do it in the highest EV capacity vehicle right now. Right now I can do that in 3.5 hours at 80mph with 1 gas and potty stop (for the wife of course ). I pass by a small town in the freeway with super chargers for Tesla’s and they are often full. They have to sit for an hour to get enough charging to complete the the trip. EVs are fine if you have short trips away from a charging source and time to charge. I get hybrids but having 2 power system doubles the chance of repairs. Battery technology still isn’t close to what it needs to be. It needs to be half the weight, 5-10 minutes to a full charge, and triple the amperage.

youre basing a future of 100% EV’s on technology that exists today. It’s a ridiculous assumption to make. Technology improves, load and range numbers increase, that’s how engineering and R&D work. No ones mandating you to haul a heavy load in an EV today.

Strongest bladder determines rest stops, you rookie.

As for the other speculative issues, I’m sure there will be vehicular offerings that will get you to point A from point B. Maybe you will spend twenty minutes going potty instead of five. Infrastructure will evolve alongside new types of propulsion. The world will still turn.

That’s why I mentioned battery technology has to catch up. The government, and especially California, doesn’t make decisions like this on current technology. They think they can legislate scientific progress. (Moderators, THIS ISN'T POLITICAL)

Ask any boomer if their bladder capacity is what it used to be. :)

As if it makes any difference who’s bladder was the reason anyway. What scrotum thing the say, being proud about the bladder? WTF. Writing your name in the snow is different, that’s a skill worthy of note.

Sometimes it is in our best interest to encourage a direction that wouldn’t happen on its own. That’s why they’re called difficult decisions because you know they won’t be popular. Telling people what they want to hear is both weak and foolish in the long run.

Yep. Stupid is as stupid does, that includes living in CA. CA has no clue what they’re doing unfortunately. Had a friend just leave there , he said it’s all down hill there.

Can't be worse than Texas' power grid. You can't even turn on a heater there without blowing up the grid.
