    Good Day,

I'm looking to re-gear my 2005 v6 6 speed manual Tacoma. I am running 33" tires and will be hauling around 800lb payload (slide in aluminum truck camper) and towing a small boat on a trailer (950lb tow load). I also have a arb bumper, warn winch, sliders and a aftermarket rear bumper. So a little bit of extra weight.

I travel in elevations around 0 to 2000 feet and often on mountain roads. so up and down hills.(North Western British Columbia)

I am wondering what gear ratio I should purchase? 4.56, 4.88, 5.29? most highway speeds are 40 to 60mph

    Thanks in advance

Maybe the tire calculator would help a little?

At least let you see how to be close to replication of stock gearing/tire size.

Looks like 4.10 gears, but with all the weight I am hauling wondering which gears would suit my needs. Im leaning towards 4.56 or 4.88

Re gearing will give you more power, but there is nothing at all you can do about payload. The GVWR is constant. I'd suspect that with the modifications you've done your truck is well over GVWR. Pretty much anyone who has ever owned a truck as overloaded it at times. And you can get away with it occasionally for short periods of time if you're careful. But to run a truck significantly over loaded on a regular basis means your steering, braking and suspension are being over worked. If you want to haul more weight you need a bigger truck.

Auto or manual transmission? That'll make a difference in gearing.

My attention to detail is lacking this evening. I'd go with 4.30 or 4.56 if you plan on larger tires at some point.

I realize that ill be at the limit, this won't be long distances or busy roads. I've done the calculations and I should be legal. Also I have beefed up suspension(arb old man emu), upgraded brake pads(hawk hps), air bags, meticulously maintained.

That’s what I would have went with, since you are hauling weight too.
4.88 might be too much, you can always drop down a gear if you need too.

Let us know how you like them
