I followed the steps for hooking up the violet, blue, green, pink and green/black wires to a DPDT switch found here: https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rr-diff-lock-problem-please-help.263778/

I did not do anything with the red/black wire from the dash switch, nor did I wire one side of the coil to ground. I skipped the last 3 bullet points essentially.

The DPDT switch works and locks/unlocks the factory locker, but now I’m wondering what the deal is with the red/black wire and extra ground. Does hooking these up as described just let you use the factory switch on the dash? Am I likely to damage anything by skipping these steps?

When I flip the DPDT switch I hear the actuator, then I flip the switch back to the middle. The clock spring in the actuator seems to do the rest. Is the red/black wire necessary for the limit switch in the locker to work or is it unnecessary?

It will work fine without wiring up those connections if you use your own switch. To utilize the dash switch, you’ll need to trigger the relay coil, hence the need for the R-B wire and another ground connection.

Thanks! I mounted the switch overhead with an extra switch that cuts power to it in case it gets bumped. I lost the locker after swapping the transfer case for an FJ one, I’m glad to have it back again.
