Check your 2021 Tacoma's for remote start!

What is this witchcraft you speak of?

 

My 2021 Sport AT with base audio is apparently supposed to come with it, but I don't see it on the app anywhere. I was excited! Now I'm sad.

 

This has to be a joke, right? A subscription for proximity based feature?! I mean, if magically the fob worked from anywhere I'd get it. But surely the only function to stop working is the connected app.

 

I am wrong.

 

That is sad to hear. I just learned that I even had remote start yesterday. The dealer neglected to inform me of it. Looks like that module is in my future.

 

You sure about that? My truck apparently doesn’t have the remote connect feature (doesn’t show up on the app anywhere and my head unit says truck doesn’t have the feature), yet I can remote start the truck with my fob. I’m not paying for it, I’m not on a trial...I’ve never seen the option anywhere

You sure about that? I thought the subscription was just to use the remote start from the app, but proximity from the fob worked regardless. The 2020s were the first year to get this (it is part of the new Entune 3.0 that came on those for the first time), maybe someone with a 2020 where the subscription has run out can confirm/deny?

I have an MT, so I don't get the nice toys like that, so neither here nor there for me. If I decide I really want it, I can get an N2 for mine in the future.

True, although I did see some company make a module for it a while back here on tacomaworld. I think you have to keep the Clutch start cancel button permanently active. Wondering if you could do this with viper car alarm+remote starter, but not sure since I don't have any experience with remote starters.

 

Remote Start via fob.

Doors shut, hood shut. Automatic left in Park or Neutral.

Hit Lock. wait for 1.25 seconds. Lock. wait 1.25 seconds. Lock (& hold) and it starts.

I am joking about the 1.25 seconds, but too fast or too slow didn't work. "One Mississippi" seems too long, so try "One Miss" but there is a definite wait time between presses.

Not those in the South use the same amount of time to say "Bob" or "Mississippi", so your mileage may vary.

 

2020 Army Green here. Remote start works just fine without any subscription.
And I did have the Entune service. It has now expired.

 

N2 sells a remote starter (fob and app) that works with the MT and it works fine. It even keeps the engine running when you open the door! I believe it is PnP other than one splice/tap you have to put in. You have to follow a sequence when you shut off the truck to "prepare" it so that it can remote start when you want, but it doesn't sound too complicated.

The Tacoma 6MT already has the Clutch Start Cancel button/system that allows you to start the truck without pushing in the clutch. I wish they'd let you use it with the official remote starter. They'd just have to have it electronically check to make sure CSC is set and the stick is in the neutral position, both of which I'd think they could do nowadays.

 

You're giving me hope! The fob not working just seemed way to absurd.

Interesting. How long since your Entuned service ended? My remote start from my fob worked for about 15 months. 2020 bought in Nov 2019 and i think the remote start worked until March 2020 but has NOT worked since.
