OK about 10 problems with this.

First the doofus on the YouTube. Can't believe people are still all worshipping that guy. He's a grade A moron of a failed mechanic. He has a bunch of followers so companies pay him to make videos bragging about their crap.

The the claims of protecting engine at cold start. Total BS because the factory housing system holds oil just the same.

If some standard filter is cheaper than the cartridge something isn't right. The cartridges cost next to nothing and are on every toyota, many have had them pushing 10ish years now.

Standard oil filters are also horrible for enviroment because of the massive out of oil still in them even if you "drain" them after removal.

The adapter was likely made to use whatever ancient design of oil filter that the cheapest available due to not being used anymore, thus allow them to claim savings.

Also just an FYI, THOSE ADAPTERS VOID WARRANTY. If you have an extended powertrain warranty, kiss that goodbye too.

Old post but this is killing me. Are you saying anyone who installed this adaptor now has no more warranty coverage? You couldn’t be more wrong.

The only way someone would get denied coverage is if the adaptor failed which caused some type of catastrophic damage. No different than having an OEM cartridge installed improperly with a double O ring leading to the same result. If oil was to leak out and brick your motor , factory warranty wont cover that either.
But no, installing this adaptor doesn’t just magically void anything.

I dunno about all that. If your engine has any valve train issues or anything else that gets oiled inside the engine fails prematurely (whether the Baxter thing has anything to do with it or not), I could absolutely see a dealer (and/or Toyota corporate) denying coverage if the oil delivery system was modified in any way. Mods like this give them a possible “out” to use, and it’s up them in the end. I sure wouldn’t have that thing still on my truck if I needed to take take it in for warranty repairs. Why take the chance of them denying it when you could just swap the old housing back on?

These adapters are close to $300 now with shipping. Don’t get me wrong, I wish our 3rd gens still had spin-on filters right there on the top of the engine like the last gen, but to pay that much money just to skip the extra 60 seconds it takes to R&R the paper filter, wipe out the housing and throw on a couple o-rings just seems like a huge waste of money for such a minimal gain in convenience or time saved. I change my oil twice a year, so this adapter might save me about 2 minutes/year. If I keep this truck for 20 years, this adapter still wouldn’t even have saved me 1 hour of my time in 2 decades. Lol

I don't believe that hyperbole ever wins an argument. Just stick to the facts. 5qt oil @ $20 X 35 = $700 > $200 Your math ain't math'n. That doesn't even cover the filter or extra 1qts you need to top it off after an oil change w\filter. "leak points" are outliers (statistic reference) and are predominately a user error issue. Follow the torque values and you should be ok. If not then just return\exchange it. Boasting that it isn't that hard for you doesn't mean that it wouldn't be hard for someone else. Try a little compassion for those of us outside of your little world you got going on.

In my experience, the Baxter does not offer me any advantages. A spin on filter costs more than a Toyota filter insert for the Tacoma. The canister type filter set up is easier for me to drain, with less mess than a spin on filter.

I wouldn’t save any time with a spill on filter. The amount of time that may be saved, is offset by the additional amount of time cleaning the mess from spin on filter or waiting for a spin on filter to drain.

Yes, I did say waiting on a spin on filter drain. You can slightly loosen the filter and allow some oil from the housing and the standpipe to drain out. However, it often runs down the sides of the filter and makes a mess. There are tools available allow you to pierce the bottom side of the spin on filter. Thus allowing you to drain the oil from the spin on filter, thus reducing a mess to zero.

Personally, I don’t mind doing the work. For me, the factory set up, when used with the Toyota aluminum housing, it is a better mouse trap.

The Baxter cost me $218 on sale, no tax and free shipped. The spin on filters I use do NOT cost more than the Toyota cartridge filter. USA made Purolator is $8.66 and the WIX equivalent is $11.04. Facts should be stated when commenting. For YOU the best set up is with the aluminum housing - many here will argue THAT is a waste (search that topic for days!). Many on this forum will get angry and insulting for using the Baxter adapter (not intended at you Greg). I guess my comment is that we all modify our vehicles the way we want. I see so many BUTT ugly wheels and bumpers on this forum that it amazes me, but thats OK - its just not for me. We all modify our trucks which is great - none are right, none are wrong. Oh well - I have to get back to searching for an aftermarket key FOB case (what???).

    Wonderful thoughts on this.

I agree, it’s all about the experiences, wants and needs for the individual.
