How did that water crossing go? Looks like it has the potential for a bad time lol

It went ok.. I scouted it before I crossed.
There is a very deep hole right in the center of the road on the other side.
I entered on the far left then turned upstream about 1/2 way where you can see the ripples in the water. It was a lot shallower there. Then made a turn and came out right where the bike is setting.
As I learned early in my dirt bike career, "still water runs deep"

I’m in the almost the exact same boat. Honda, not Kawi in my case. Never should have sold the Grom. Spending way too much time surfing classifieds and emailing dealers.

My girlfriend is looking at training courses to get her licence so she get get her dads Trail 90 plated. If she does that, I likely pick up another Grom. She learned to use a clutch on my last one. She tells me now that it was really fun to ride, and that if I still had it, we could swap back and forth, but she wouldn’t want to if I had anything bigger. Could have told me that before I sold it dear! I’m still looking at smaller full size bikes like a Duke 200 or Scrambler Sixty2. I don’t think she’d be overwhelmed by either. Leaning towards the Grom though. I haven’t had so much fun on a bike as I did on that thing since my Z50.

I have never rode a Scrambler 400, but for her might be ok. For you, probably too slow. Not that they are for speed anyways..

My neighbor got an XSR900 for his first bike. That has the FZ09 engine. I think was a bad decision. Its super torquey.

I think on any bike, you/she will have as much fun as a cheaper option. But go for whichever one you like most!

Yep, still have the KTM. It’s a turd, but only into it $1200. Thinking about doing a full rebuild and possibly turning it into a supermoto or a trail bike it’s plated.

I've ridden dirt bikes since I was 9 years old. Just got my bike license 3 years ago at 43, so I'm very new to the on road thing, and it's not something I can say I have a passion for. The occasional joy ride, and being able to ride with the girlfriend are really my only prerequisites. I don't think I'll ever attain the level of enthusiast. The WR250R was a complete bust for me. Didn't enjoy that bike much at all. Having said that though, the Grom was a lot of fun. Enjoyed modding it. It was fun to run to the store or the bank on it. And even though I do most of my own maintenance, if my truck had to go to the shop, it was super easy to load up the Grom, drop the truck, and go about my day without having to worry about getting a service loaner, or relying on a shuttle.

So, I'm fine with small CC, something inexpensive, but holds it value well, and something that I didn't blow a lot of coin on, only to feel guilty and wasteful for only riding it a handful of miles a year. Kind of sounds like of talked myself into another Grom.

Damn, I've been eyeing an XSR700 or MT-07 for a SECOND bike. Can't imagine starting out on the 900 is anything but a recipe for disaster.

Just spoke with the dealer I bought my last one from. Something about Covid related production delays and demand, they're only getting 2 of the 10 they ordered. Sticker of $3800, for a tax in OTD of $4700. My 2017 was $2999 for an all in OTD piece of $3600. All of which reenforces that I'm an absolute asshat for having sold it. I might just wait till things start returning to their post- covid normal, and people start selling off the toys they bought when they had the free time to use them. Only two used ones on Kijiji Calgary, both of which are OG's. One is asking $3900 because of a custom purple paint job. The other asking $3500 because you'll never find a better maintained example.
