Electric vehicles are a great concept and work great for people that commute inner city or spend majority of their time in an urban environment. People that spend most of their time in rural environments it is very impractical at this point in time. Will ev phase out petroleum vehicle maybe but not in my lifetime.

I say in the next century the country will be 100% ev or other alternative fuel. But I'll never know it.

100 years from horses to now. It will take a lot less to transition to ev. Especially given the necessity.

I know this thread is sort of about Tacoma's announcement and mostly about people's emotions and stuff. But, like, everyone reads too, no? "GM has said that it will offer 30 new electric models by 2025, and that two thirds of those will be available in North America." The new Silverado is slated to have a 400-mile battery pack. These trends will certainly impact Toyota's designs too regardless of TW retrogrouchery. Here's a screen grab from GM's site. They're going in hard whilst the electric Tacoma is also coming. ;-)

I really enjoyed this show - but the real hero was the Rivian. I wish they would have given a bit more attention to the truck. The HD bikes were crap, but I think that's due to HD. If you pay attention, during one scene, you gleen that HD didn't even support the project. A handful of forward thinking HD employee's came in on their day(s) off the build and prep the bikes.

Plus if you know anything about motorcycles, the geometry tweaks and adjustments they made to those bikes, they must have been miserable to ride. It's no wonder they spent most of their time going 45mph.

I'm also going to take this opportunity -- I've been in the motorcycle industry in one way or the other for almost 30 years. Loud pipes DO NOT save lives. it's complete nonsense. Maybe, it had a shred of value in the 70's when bikes were lane splitting in California freeways when everyone had their windows down, but the way the doppler effect and the sound waves move in conjunction with the direction of travel of the motorcycle and the increased sound deadening of cars. It has been proven, unequivocally, by science, loud pipes DO NOT save lives.

I like how someone else on here said "if they are so worried about safety, you'd think they'd put on safety kit and a proper helmet." Or as I've always said "If you think loud pipes save lives, imagine what learning how to ride would do"

And yes, I ride, probably more than anybody else on this forum. :)

They took those bikes on crazy roads. I'm surprised they never got a flat. Unless they never showed that. But the RIVIAN tow to charge was cool.

The whole show owes itself to Rivian. They set up most of the charging stations. The tow charge was genius! Even when David ripped the rear shock apart, the damn thing kept on going!

Having had the opportunity drive a few Teslas, and ride a few eMoto's. I look forward to the electric revolution. They are so much f**king fun!! The off-the-bottom torque and acceleration is you-can't-help-but-giggle fantastically fun! And they are so wondrously quiet! It's spectacular! And the Kymco (the company that makes scooters) says their electric motorcycle will have a manual transmission because they say "shifting is part of the art of riding"

Bring on the electric revolution! It'll be better!

Norway is way ahead of the world in EV implementation...the US could learn from them

As I said before - H2 has its place in the energy mix... but not the best for basic passenger vehicles: (All is possible - BUT If you are less efficient - you are wasting $$$ relative to better options...)

I would love a hybrid taco to start out. not sure I would be willing to jump straight into a full EV yet.. especially since I don't own a house yet. After watching a recent review of the rav4 prime, its really got me wanting a hybrid taco.

If I had to buy a replacement for my Tacoma tomorrow and all options were open it would be a hybrid and not a full EV. I am hoping to drive the Pan American Highway in the next few years and a EV would make it more challenging. For North America I am thinking we are less than 5 years away from me feeling good about full EV and still getting into places like Black Rock desert or the Mojave Road.

The rav4 prime is really appealing, if it was slightly better offroad I would replace my Tacoma with one. My wife and I bought a Prius Prime about a month ago and it is awesome, we've used maybe a gallon of fuel driving it 600 miles. Makes my Taco feel like a fuel money hog.

When people in living in urban environments abandon gas, it will quickly become unprofitable. ~80% of us population is urban, no one is going to produce something for the 20% of the US population that is spread extremely thin. Especially not gas that is only profitable if produced and transported in high volumes.

Considering there are entire states like that maybe not. But also I don’t think the “rural” thing will be as much of an issue down the road as it seems people fear today. There’s way more land for alternative energy than there is in the burbs and fewer people that it has to provide for. Wind/water has been used for centuries to do work on many scales. It won’t be just solar electric that is a growth industry.
