Was that the part you think was steep? Looks pretty mellow in that footage.

 

We did it from the top to the bottom. So, the first part of the video is steep. On the video, it's hard to see but I used 4lo.

 

Anyway, it's very simple, Laurel is better from 4x4 perspective.

 

The video is a bit deceptive really. It's far steeper than it looks as it drops 6,000 ft in 9 miles. The first 3.5 miles drop 3500 ft and then the bottom 5.5 miles drop 2,500 ft. You'll definitely hitter steeper pitches on trails for short distances, but I can't think of any other road in CA that changes that much elevation so relatively quickly. People take subarus and minivans down it on occasion (and sometimes on accident) and it's borderline doable, but you pretty much need 4lo for that 1,000 ft/mile sustained climb going up.

Exactly, I would have gone last year if not for my wife panicking over the wild fires. Let's start getting this one planned, but avoid the same weekend as the San G trip which is also typically late SEP.

 

I'll be on the other side of the country by mid August for good. So I'll probably miss the next one unless it's easier in the year

 

This year is likely off for me, I just have way to much going on with work to take the time off. But I am down to start planning for a 2022 trip and make it big.

 

Then for 2022, I vote to try to make it a trip up your way! @dumontrider, where are those sand dunes that you always wanted to visit?
