I just picked up a nice set of OEM seat covers and learned that I cant use them due to my side curtain air bags. The dealer that sent them said in their reply note "This was not standard on all Tacomas of that era. I will allow a return for those. It would not be safe to use any seat covers in this situation."
Now I have to believe SOMEBODY makes a good quality seat cover that doesn't look like an old wrinkled sheet, that allow air bag access on the side. I bet someone on here has a solution to my dilemma. I am little by little making this 06 able to last for my lifetime, and finding a way to extend the life of the seats is my next step.
Thank you all in advance for your time. This group is awesome (until someone starts an oil thread LOL)

Wet Okole makes a great neoprene seat cover (wet suit material) that also has the appropriate fitment for side airbags. I've got them on my truck and love them. They look as good today as they did when I had them installed a few years back.

Here's a thread with a ton of pictures to give you an idea of fitment: Wet Okole

And here's a picture I just snapped of my seat covers for you. First one is what the seat cover looks like normally. Second pic shows you where the opening is for the airbag compared to the seat.

    Hope this helped!!

You can pretty much buy any reputable cover made specific for an 09+ Tacoma and it should be optioned with side flaps to allow airbag deployment.

I have Coverking seat covers in the spacer mesh style and they have been great. They have spots for the side curtain air bags.

I once bought a set of used Marathon seat covers off a guy whose truck was totaled. Beautiful covers but they’re custom-made to the vehicle out of waterproofed cordura and made in USA so they’re pricey.

Main point of the story is I specifically asked the company about side airbag deployment, and they use a different stitch material on the seam on that side which breaks easily. So I don’t believe you necessarily need to have an open flap to permit airbag deployment.

Thanks for your replys! Some good options there. Looks like I missed the Wet Okole group buy by about a month :(
Gonna have to buck and pay top dollar for seat covers but its really no different than any other investment I suppose.
Mike714...thanks for taking the pics. Do you like the light gray or do you think the darker color charcoal would look as good and maybe hide more staining?

I have a set from these folks. Completely customizable for pockets, great quality and they were a pleasure to work with.
No affiliation, just a very satisfied customer. And all materials used by them is USA made, right down to the thread.

You’re very welcome sir! I like the light grey. It seems to match the door card color pretty well. I did debate going with the dark grey though when I was making my purchase. It would probably hide stains a tad better than the light. However, these seat covers are machine washable, so I haven’t run into any problems yet with stains.

By the way, when you’re buying from wet okole, you can option the seat covers with both adjustable lumbar support as well as heated seats. So if you’re investing in it, you may think about those options for even more comfort from your seats.
