I'm 15,000 miles out of warranty and just realized my timing chain cover is leaking. Turns out it's a common-ish problem and truly a manufacturer's defect.
It is a massive repair to do yourself because you have to pull the engine and it will cost you $3,500 to $4,500 to have Toyota do it.
It looks like it's been leaking for a while and probably was leaking during the warranty but it's on the side of the motor so you're not going to notice it unless you're looking for it were you remove your skid plate and notice it's collecting on top.
Anyways, just wanted to try and save the next guy some headache and tell them to keep an eye on it before their warranty is up.
Please feel free to help your fellow man and respond with any other issues you feel like may be worth periodically checking before the warranty expires.

What years does this common problem affect?

Mine's 2017 but it looks like it's more predominant in 2016.
It'll collect on the side of the motor and on the power steering pump so it's easy to miss.

    For your reference.
Another sign is the top of your skid is covered in oil.
