Just picked up my new OR, mt. Drove it about 2.5 hours to get home from the dealership. My impression so far is that I love this truck. Always been a chevy man but wanted to down size and have been eyeing Toyota for a while for its reputation.

All the tech in the pickup is great. Until now my newest vehicle was an 07 Malibu. I'm learning slowly how to use it all. But it seems fairly intuitive so far.

Ride quality far exceeds anything I've owned before.

The power isnt overwhelming, or even impressive. But it is enough power for the truck. I knew it wasn't a hot rod when I went in. So I'm satisfied there. Got the trd exhaust so atleast it sounds good.

Fit and finish is plenty nice for me. Cant wait to give it a wash and wax tomorrow and look at all the doohickeymajigs it has. Even got a cross box tool box to try to mount.

Had mine for about 7 weeks now - seems like the 'umph' has improved over time and break-in... mine is an AT but I love it
so far and find any excuse to take it out for a spin. If I wanted a dragster I woulda bought one - this thing for me is all I need.

    Congrats on the new ride.

Go for a clay bar before your waxing. You’d be surprised how much shit comes off even with a new truck. Congrats!

Glad you like your tacoma, as i was less impressed initially doing my 160 mile ride home with my 2020 tacoma from its dealer. Seemed the truck couldn't make its made up what gear to be in every time there was a slight grade. Roughly 1500 miles later it was an entire different truck. At 10k miles today can't asked for a truck that perform better.
As far as power, seems these trucks are very tight. Mine didn't seem to develop a lot till 6k miles...its been getting better all the time.

I mean, it's not a V8 (or EcoBoost) and the MT has slightly lower gearing as well. But it has more than plenty of power. It's not like you need 4 second 0-60 times in a pickup truck.

I came from a 4 cyl 1996 tacoma. I can't even comprehend the people saying the 3rd gen V6 is too slow... Ride was incredible stock too

If by plenty of power you mean adequate for unloaded driving and certainly needing help with a load or towing...sure. When towing or loaded down the truck could use an extra 100hp/tq to actually be adequate, the lack of which is compounded by the gutless lower end.

Did some errands around town and some garden work, hauling a few plants to our community garden. Still very pleased.

You're driving a mid size truck rated for 6500 lbs. In reality, if you're regularly towing even close to that you need a bigger truck.

I'm well aware of what I'm driving but even towing 3000lbs is quite unimpressive. It's not unsafe or anything but the truck just has no balls. I chose a midsize again over another fullsize since I spend more time driving without a trailer than with but it would be nice if they came factory with more power. Mine is mostly fixed but it cost me some spare change.

If it makes you feel better, that's pretty much the case with all of the mid-sizers. TFL even did a comparison between the diesel Colorado and the F150 and towed a Corvette on a flatbed trailer with both. The weight was well within the towing capacity for both trucks at 5600 lbs. However, the Colorado was all over the place.

But, again, these are mid-size trucks. Mid-size trucks that are geared for MPG, no less. Regearing will help, but the engine itself has 42 more HP than the famed 4.0L it replaced.

What elevation are you at? I know that kills power on these NA engines. I’ve towed around 3,000 lbs through the mountains in Tennessee and had no problems, but it’s not the Ike Gauntlet or anything. It was pretty easy to ride out in the left lane when I wanted to though.

Just curious, what did you do to help with towing? Re-gear? Tune?

Yeah, I can see that elevation killing power. Supercharger should help though lol. :burnrubber:
