I also take issue with a frame only boxed at the rear, but I understand it helps the rear frame not bend at bumpstop landing or hangers, just that is pretty much all its going to do more than say the Hh cross tube option.

I would like to see you get our cross tube option under your truck with that weight, but I understand the spare tire issue on the camper

 

LT guys often have no choice but to box rear section because they notch the bottom, notch the side, cut in bumps cans.

It doesn't solve the inherent Taco wiggles that result from an 1/8" thick C channel in the middle of the truck.

The Tacoma frame should be the Ranger frame, its done right, basically the Tacoma frame 1/8" thick outside with full boxing inside.
That's why the Ranger has the same 1,700lb payload as a current Tundra. Doubters can go check the numbers.
Toyota should copy Ford so they can be respectable.

Thankfully my frustrations with Toyota will be addressed in the 4th gen Tacoma and Tundra

 

Definitely would love to have the cross tube for strength but need to have the spare tire there as there’s no other place for it. I feel we already look like the Clampetts of the show Beverly Hillbillies.

 

What grease are people using to lubricate the shackles? Was hoping that a synthetic grease called superlube would work?

 

I use that, it's pretty good, but Energy suspension or Prothane is more viscous and choosen by them for their bushings, so better choice

 

like @ARCHIVE said, energy suspension is pretty good. They have a regular grease but also have their Formula 5 grease which is the tackiest sticky icky grease that I've personally dealt with. It's a bit pricey and doesn't come in a tube, only a small tub.

Just curious when you lubricate the bushings what all do you lubricate? Im about to change out all mine again.

Dissect the assembly. Lube by hand, then reassemble.

 

I follow energy suspensions recommendation to lubricate everything that touches metal. So clean the inside of shackle/leaf eye, maybe take a brillo pad first if the leaf eye is a bit gritty, then lube up the eye and outer edge, OD/ID of bushing, and anti-seize inside the bushing sleeve. I've heard some people lube the inside of the bushing as well instead of anti-seize. Anything to keep the bolts and bushing sleeve from rusting I suppose. When finally installed, I just wipe any excess grease that may have been squeezed out to try and minimize the accumulation of dirt and grime.

lube it up when it's apart, reassemble. You can also scoop the grease out of the tub and into a small grease gun which is a bit messy. I don't have zerk fittings on my stuff yet, on the to do list.

 

Ive heard like a million different things lol. Im just gonna lube everything that touches metal lol. I always lube the outside/face and inside of bushing. Ive never put anti-seize on that bolt though but in the south we don't really have to worry about rust. Even pulling my stock cam bolts for the first time i was able to get them out with not that much rust on them and they had been through hell lol over 100k.

 

yeah I remember some folks saying to not lube the outside of the bushing because of some reason; but yeah if it touches metal, it's getting a slatherin'. No issues and everything cycles as it should.

I think the only good reason to grease the outside of the bushing is for insertion and to keep the outer metal from rusting, which would squeeze down on the bushing.
Having the bushing turn is bad, therefore why greasing outside of bushing could potentially be bad.
