Ran into something funny/bazaar today at work. I’m halfway through my third second gen 4.0 head gasket job in less than 9 months and this one is rusty as hell and almost all the ex manifold nuts and studs needed to be replaced. The studs came in today and first thing I noticed is the part label description “stud hexalobular”. What the hell?
Quick google search and it’s the official term for Torx which is just a trademark evidently. I’ve long believed that the tool company’s are in cahoots with the manufactures and just simply coming up with new fasteners in order to keep selling tools and that’s immediately what I thought, basterds! But no, it’s just a Torx. 102A03CF-D4F8-4264-9251-DB3D5570810E.jpg2D82A799-A860-4B66-BE66-605E09A0FEF8.jpg

You probably already know this but square drive fasteners are called Robertsons and there's a European spec to Phillips and those are called pozidrive

But torx is like q-tips or kleenex, get so big and the brand becomes the ubiquitous nomenclature

Stranded with the flatbed. Battery is good with 12.7v. Pulled fuses until I figured out what was going on. Every time I try and crank it with the starter fuse installed I hear a loud click and then lose all power for a few minutes until it comes back.

Edit: stole the starter relay from the double cab. Truck started right up.

    :fistbump:

One of my favorite comedians of all time, he was a local legend growing up in DC area. Before the Chapelle show my brother's buddies went to go see him at a comedy club bar. Dave just kept telling jokes and monologing, didn't stop. People started getting tired and leaving, brother's buddies hung our till club kicked em out at 3am. They all went and shot hoops till sunrise

New about the pozidrive but not the Robertson’s, learn something new every day

Actually 25 years at Chrysler/dodge/jeep dealer and last 11 at an independent, hardly ever do major work on Toyota products so im surprised to be doing so many head gasket jobs on relatively low mile 4.0s. Is this a thing with this engine? If so I’m liking my 3.4 even more.

early 4.0s had headgasket issues. seems like 08-09 they improved something.. see ALOT less issues with them
