What Have You Done To Your 3rd Gen Today?

Thanks for the recommendation. I’m running it from under passenger to the A/C controls. Hopefully I don’t run into any problems. Just might order to be get ahead of the trouble.

 

At 30AWG, will that be able to handle the amperage? I use Ethernet cable all over the truck for relay control signals, and that makes me a little nervous.

 

Discovered my timing chain cover is leaking now that my warranty is up.
You would never notice unless you pull your skid plate and find oil on it or if you just happen to be looking at your power steering pump.
From what I've seen Toyota charges $3,500-$4,500 to fix it because they have to pull the motor.
Looks like it's happened to others on here.
This is really just a PSA, check for oil periodically before your warranty is up by your power steering pump.
This is a manufacturer's defect but if you don't catch it before your warranty is up you'll be in the same boat as me.

Measured top of tire to fender before and after, both measurements were stock tires. Haven’t measured anything since I put the new tire on. I posted pics a few pages ago

I finally washed the Jambo off of my truck.

Finally got my commercial radio (a nice little Kenwood) installed today, as a compliment to my cheapie Amateur rig. For those who are nerdie enough to know (or care about the difference) I installed a 1/2 wave VHF aerial; the other is a 1/4 wave VHF/UHF dual band aerial

It is primarily for LADD (Logging ADministration Dispatch) and RR (Resource Road) VHF frequencies; in western Canada these are the 'logging road' frequencies. When we are out skulking on the Forest Service Roads, this allows us to hear - and talk to - logging trucks, maintenance rigs (like those big ass graders that span the width of an entire road) and log loading sites....idea being, you can get your ass out of the way of a loaded logging truck careening down the side of a mountain if you are able to talk to him. Or her. Rural and remote public safety rigs (BC Ambulance, Conservation Officers, RCMPolice units, Forest Service, Highways, etc) all have these as well.

Remaining spots in the memory are dedicated to Amateur 2m frequencies, as well as the designated 4WD frequencies in BC. The 4WD Association of BC was successful in lobbying to get a designated frequency for off roading; this was quite a coup, given that ISED (in America that'd be the dreaded FCC) is almost pathologically averse to giving away bandwidth. This gives us all a common, reliable and consistent mode of communication. Assuming, of course, that someday we are actually allowed to leave our homes.

Now I can be an off-roader/4WD warrior AND a nerd, at the same time.

And the radio gives off enough heat that it'll be a nice foot warmer for my wimpy-ass, whiney hunting partner come Autumn.

If you are local to the Lower Mainland, and you need a commercial radio, or bits and pieces, go see Greg or Jon at WTS Wireless Technical Services in Coquitlam. Great guys, helped me out a LOT.

Don't let the fact that they are next door to a crematorium dissuade you. Much.

Unless I'm missing something, it's only used for hooking up the mic and/or head end controller, which is a minuscule power level. It's not used for actually carrying power to the transceiver itself for RF. Just enough to carry stuff like voice or button-presses from the controller. It's not like POE. You definitely wouldn't want to be powering the transceiver itself over Ethernet.

 

Finished installing my 454 spare tire cage.

 

Finally ordered the Eibach Pro lift, SCS BR6 wheels in matte bronze, and some KO2s to go with them. I also ordered the TRD matte bronze wheels, KO2s, and predator steps for the wife's 4Runner. Not gonna be stoke too much longer.

Thank you! My curiosity stems from starting to consider this about 3 projects down the road. I realize it’s not running transceiver power, but I haven’t started any research yet and have no idea what the current draw for the microphone is.
