Need an XM radio booster!

Maybe some antenna positioning will help, but my signal was crap today (first day with the xm). I live at the tip of Eastern KY going into WV for work, so it's pretty mountainous, but I still think it should work. My girlfriend's signal (built-in on GMC Acadia) works fine and worse conditions.

Is there a better place on the Tacoma than under the edge of the headliner at the top of the windshield? XM guide recommended sticking it to the metal up there but that seems like it's sorta blocked.

Or do I just need a booster? And is there a booster out there that will help me? This is super frustrating because my local area has absolute crap for terrestrial radio rock stations.

 

Put the antenna on the roof where it can see the satellite.

Sounds to me like you installed it on the inside of the truck under the headliner correct? If so that will always cause problems, the antenna has to be able to "see" the satellites which it cannot do through metal (aka the roof). You need to move the antenna to the outside of the truck on the roof and it should work just fine.

 

Thanks guys. I was discussing it with a buddy earlier and we agreed that I must have misread the install guide. Their pictures suck. It didn't seem to make a lot of sense at the time anyway.

I'm gonna run it right out the window in the morning, stick it on the roof and see how it does before I do a clean install.


Any tips for a good place to run it through the truck though? i can do it under the trim and all if I put it on the back of the roof, but the front is what was suggested. I'm mostly concerned with..

a good route out of behind the dash if possible

and a good place to run the wire out of the truck without the potential for leaks or whatever. the weatherstripping around the windshield seems like a bad place to do it.

Just to note in case anyone cares..I stuck this thing out the passenger window and it's basically flawless now.

And I feel like an idiot.

but, I re-read the install guide and it REALLY looks like it's suggested for under the headliner, but whatevs..lol..i have decent music now!
