How can I get navigation with out up grading my phone from flip to smart ? I've had 15,17, and 19 which I didn't need a smart phone, Now they tell me to move into the new century. I feel I am being dictated to. Any help would be great. Thank you

Lol. And welcome. I resisted going to a smart phone for the longest time as well. I don't know of any way to get around it. Likely, you will have to make the jump if you want the Google maps. Otherwise, buy a standalone GPS map device.

The 2021’s require a smart phone link to work for navigation? This can’t be so.

I know how you feel. My '20 required a smart phone too, and I had one already. Only, it was too old. So, I had to upgrade anyway. Otherwise, none of my Bluetooth options worked well at all. Didn't even realize the remote start worked from an app. Not the greatest app, but it mostly works. Anyway, all the Bluetooth stuff is awesome now with the new phone.

Only aesthetic mods so far Leer 180 cap & Clazzio covers on order.
If your head unit didn't come with Navigation, buy a Garmin and save your brain from trying to adapt to a pricey 'smart' phone.

I think there is a lot of misinformation flying around here. Many Tacomas come with navigation with a 3 year trial. It is called dynamic navigation and it does not need a smartphone and is GPS based. If you do not have The proper tech package you may not have dynamic navigation. It is available in a “dynamic navigation” package, a “premium audio and navigation” package, the TRD off road “premium”package and possibly other ways across trim levels. If you have it, you DO NOT need a smart phone. If you do not have it, one way is through your smart phone (Apple CarPlay and Android Auto) — but that is not through a GPS and you need cell service where you may be traveling. The other option, is as mentioned elsewhere in this thread, an outboard GPS device. I do not know if dynamic navigation can be added to a Tacoma that did not done with it from the factory, but that is a question for another day and it seems as though you would need the proper hardware.
