Of course, the juiciest of all “coming econopocalypse” rumours is the Bill and Melinda Gates divorce. This also worries me somewhat.

It’s an established fact now that Bill was dicking his girlfriend Anne with Melinda’s knowledge and approval. So no reason to divorce over that. So why bother?

If you are to believe the conspiracy theories, they are only divorcing, now, to protect their collective wealth into the future. They are both afforded some tax advantages by splitting up the hoard, and Melinda in particular will have her half somewhat sheltered if it is an “award” through her settlement with Bill.

You might all think this is crazy talk, but when literally hundreds of billions of dollars are involved, nothing is purely emotional or random. The Gates’ would have shrewd financial people hired at all levels to protect their wealth from themselves.

So best guess is that Bill and Melinda are splitting up their wealth to protect it from the taxman in the coming years, that they see as volatile or uncertain. Bill will keep dicking his girlfriend and Melinda will keep going with the pool boy, and they will keep their collective social engineering projects afloat and fat with cash from two bank accounts rather than one.

Does make one pause to think.

    Gosh....they were so beautiful together!

Spot on Lt. Dangle. I never drive my 2020 Jeep Wrangler anymore since I bought my Tacoma. After adding a couple ofbells and whistles I wanted (Stitched leather 2-tone seats, and all the chrome), I paid $36,000. Kelly Blue Book has my jeep priced between $35,900 - $39,998. I love my Jeep but I love my Tacoma more.

Travlr - I agree that it's not just Tacomas. If I got back my $36,000 for the Jeep, I'd sell it in a heartbeat. If ya know someone that's into Jeeps, please PM me.....

Yes. It’s a hedge. Next move is sell it and buy a Ridgeline. Put the difference in Dogecoin.

I could realistically list my 2010 Frontier Pro-4x 6spd for a bit over what I paid in 2015. It's over twice the age with 3x the mileage but still clean.

It won't be long until fuel prices rise substantially, the 4wd fad dies off, people are commuting again and won't have the time or as much disposable income. If I had kept it in pristine condition maybe a collector would pay top dollar some day. I'm going to keep enjoying it for myself!

One thing to mention is $20k in 2015 was worth more than $20k now.

Just did a KBB check for my truck. 2017 with 42k miles and estimated trade in is $5k more than I purchased it for certified used.

Our 4Runner was a similar story. 2019 with 15k miles and estimated trade in was about $6k more than we paid brand new.

Government caused inflation is here. You're going to be taxed on the increased value of said truck as well as the increased value of your home. I have a small modest house and just received a new tax accessment home value increase of 10%. Friend at work just got his car tag notice and his 1 year old 2020 SX went from 30k to 33k accessed value. Inflation could get very ugly very fast.

When everything “goes up in value”, all that’s really happening is you are affording less in the future. It’s a loss, not a win.

Some people struggle to see that. A dramatic increase in the value of your home, for instance, without a corresponding increase in your income, is just evidence that on some level you can no longer afford your own lifestyle. May not matter for yourself in the short-term, but if you have children, you gotta wonder what their future looks like.

The only way for the government to deal with all the debt is through inflation. They have no way of every paying it back but can lessen it's value through inflation. It's basically going to be a big tax on everyone. I've spent the last 20 years building a 401k for retirement and now will see the value of that asset inflated away. I'll be better than most since I do have money set back for retirement and my house is paid for but the travel plans I have/had may never happen.

    for sure.

And the more they keep interest rates low, the more the inflation will increase. They can inflate their way right out of their debt crisis, on the backs of the population (who still have jobs)

I wonder how long they will hold the interest rates this low. If they eventually freak at hyperinflation and crank them up like in decades past the adjustable rate loan people will get quite a shocker.

During the pandemic all of the rental cars were sold and shipped to the mainland.
Now they need to be replenished. Prices are slowly coming back down. Friends came to visit last week and they said a car was about $760 for 9 days.
It's going to take a while...real estate here is unreal, can't believe prices here keep going higher.

Considering that the dealers here in SF are selling them for $55k+, yes it is an investment, lol. Back in 2019 I could buy a Pro for $43k, I thought it was too expensive and got a fully loaded OR for $36k (after the discount). KBB says my OR is now worth $43.7k ($3k over the MSRP) not including all of the Pro bits I have on it (basically everything except the hood). I am very tempted to sell it now and buying a new one after all this nonsense is over.

Indeed ... it’s scary that some people are way too dumb to understand something so simple. They think that ‘free’ money is the answer.
