I just recently upgraded to the NEX head-unit and have my stock double din out of my 2014 just sitting around. My dad has a 2005 Tacoma with the built in plain radio. Since I have the radio and surround out of my truck, would it be plug and play with his?
    My thinking-
2nd Gen to 2nd Gen should work although he doesn't have steering wheel controls or back up camera but this would give him Bluetooth.

    Anyone done this?

    Thanks in advance

The surround may just bolt/clip in, but I’d try and fit it first as the 2005-11 dash bezels are different than the 2012-15 ones. Unlikely they have different mounting points for the radio but it’s possible.

2nd would be the wire harness connections on the back of the radios. Not sure if they changed over the years with different radios.

If you installed your new NEX unit, it would be easy enough to try and see if everything fits/connects/ and works.
If a shop installed, getting to the radio and doing this is really easy DIY ! Plenty of threads showing how to take the panels off.

Appreciate the quick reply - I installed the new radio myself, will shoot over there later and give it a test run.

Have you asked Dad if he's interested?

He may be happy with it as is.......

    Just a thought.
