Okay i just bought my new tacoma and i would like some opinions on what to do about bigger tires im completely stock as of now. So this being said in a few years (3-4)im going to tear out the suspension and replace it with something more capable to do rock crawling and the more heavy wheeling but im new to wheeling so i want to learn right and work my way up. So my question is until then should i rough it out on the lite trails ill be doing with the stock 265/70r16 tires OR ive found 88rotors has done alot of trd pros with this set up for pretty cheap 500$ for the westcott front end lift and a AAL in rear and 1200$ for bfg ko2 285/75r16 tires. So i did do research on this and other than stiffening up the suspension it says it keeps the trucks suspension working as it should. Im also wondering if you have done this how much more stiff is the suspension. Im seeing the front doesnt change much but the aal in the rear gets a little stiff in that case would it be better to get some new leaf packs? Please give my your opinion on it i really want to improve ride hight and get bigger tires untill i can afford a 5000$ Upgrade. Sorry for the long read and Thanks ahead guys!

I would put OE size GY Duratracs on the pro wheels since that's what the dealerships do.
OR the same diameter 16,s or 17,s on OE steelies. Drive it for a year and trade it in.

First off congrats on the truck and welcome to TW!

I just did the Wescott front paired with Deaver stage 2 expedition leaf packs. I added about 4-500 lbs to my truck though, so I needed a heavier spring. Also ditched my sway bar.

Truck rides better than stock IMO. It lifted it 2 1/2” front, 3 1/2” rear. I’m sure it’ll settle out a bit but there are zero issues. I’m running 285/75R16 ST Maxx’s with no rubbing. If I didn’t need new rear springs I probably wouldn’t have lifted it yet. But I’m glad I did

That said, the pro is EXTREMELY capable stock! If you’re just getting in to it, throw some 265/75R16’s on (little taller than stock) and hit some trails.

Wow we got the same truck:) JD. Yours obv. Looks cooler :p now. So you would recommend the lift but do a new set of springs than a AAL? Really like your set up tent up top is awesome whats the brand?

Thanks! If you aren’t putting a lot of weight in the truck, add a leafs or the Wescott rear block will work just fine. Add a leaf will make it stiffer. If you’re going to have it loaded up all the time, I’d do new leaf packs. I have the decked system, Leitner rack, tent and CBI rear bumper on the way. I needed the extra payload capacity.

The tent is the iKamper mini, seriously couldn’t be happier with it. It’s awesome in every way!

Well i do throw my quad back there a few times a year and thats pretty heavy but for the reason i dont think ill do anything to the back maybe a rear roll bar if i find a really nice one. I really appreciate your input im going to look for new leaf packs that will fit right but that are not for extra load. Any recommendations on a pair of good leaf packs? Ill get a rear bumper eventually but not big weight i plan on having if i take it on the trail maybe a mini fridge cooler for the bed, anyways i can get way off topic here lol! Thanks for your input so far i know ima go with the westcott lift maybe a new pair of leaf springs instead of the aal. I dont want it to be like really noticeably stiffer. And im going with 285 75 16r for tires but im going to have to make a new thread on that bc im so undecided on that direction also. Anyways love to here what you recommend for a new set of leaf packs thanks so much!!

These trucks sag really easy. They aren’t designed to hold much weight. The stage 1 spring packs from deaver are designed for up to 300lbs I believe. You’re going to want something more than stock springs. I’d just give them a call and tell them what you’re looking for. Really helpful dudes

@JDSmith did your Deaver U402 settle in yet? I installed mine on Saturday and saw almost 4" on each side! Working on the front coil overs now so I haven't really had a chance to drive it around and get things settled, so I'm just curious.

I’ve added more gear but haven’t measured it yet. Doesn’t seem like they’ve settled any on their own though. I think the new rear bumper will settle it out perfect. Rides awesome though.

Do you have any added weight in the back yet?

Rack, tent, shovel, axe, hi-lift. Sliders and skids contributing a little maybe.

Rear bumper with swingout will go on soon, just need to get it powder coated first.

I guess to be fair it’s 4” over whatever squat position it was in, not over unloaded stock.

Sounds like it’ll be a good setup

Important thing to keep in mind is that the “2” lift” is with the specified load on them. My 4-600 pounders will have about 550 on them once the bumper is here and I bet the lift will settle right around 2-2 1/2”.

These definitely send the rear sky high with no load!

I'm not too worried anyhow... after getting the 700lb front coil overs on the truck is sitting pretty good. It's not completely level, it just looks like an appropriate amount of rake now.
