Is that knob you push in or pull out to control the kick panel vents? that's how it worked on the truck i had before the Tacoma

On every vehicle I've ever owned if you have it on heat, then the valve that lets coolant flow through the heater core is open and it will heat the vent air coming in. I think you just have to turn it off heat before you shut it off.

It doesn't matter if the heat is on or not. It's just fresh air coming in. I have noticed this happen on every vehicle I've ever owned, although the Tacoma definitely does it more than those other vehicles. I just enjoy the fresh air.

OMG ! And I thought I was the only one. Mine also does it when the control knobs are in air conditioner mode.

Thats what I meant. If I have the knob on the red side, I get heat, whether the fan is on or not.

I think its the same on the new ones, just that the interface is all digital and shit.

Yeah, you're right. With the knob it is manual. The auto one does it to a degree as well. No real way to adjust that unless you change your temperature prior to shutting it off.

If you turn on your heater, but dial the temp down to low, this won't happen. Recirculating helps as well.

If you leave your temp set high, even with it off it will circulate hot air in

Can confirm that even with the heat off, air still comes in. Recirculation is the only way to prevent this. I actually use this "feature" quite frequently.

That's what I am saying, if the heat is off, but the temp was left high (hot) before it was turned off, it will still come in hot

I see what you mean. I thought you were referring to whether or not you'd get fresh air
