Sorry if this has been brought up too many times. I just bought a 2010 Tacoma from Buffalo, NY. Has a new frame but everything else is covered in (mostly) surface rust.

What are your go-to/ best methods for dealing with this? I was thinking of using something like POR 15 or Rust Bullet, but see mixed experiences with these. I'd like to do it right the first time. What are your long term experiences with your favorite methods?

Also worth noting that I don't have access to a sand blaster or paint gun

Without seeing pictures, if it's just light surface rust, I would suggest knocking down anything that will come off with a pressure washer and a wire brush in any particularly troublesome spots. The goal is to remove anything loose.

At that point, hit it with a rust converter (there are many - I have had good results with VHT Rust Converter in rattlecans) following manufacturer's directions, and then paint if you like, then Woolwax or Fluidfilm applied yearly to the frame and undercarriage.

I would just spray it with wool wax every fall. It will stop the rust and add protection. It’s a waste of time to try and remove rust and paint.

Go over it with wire wheel, sanding and scraping
    Prep is everything
Remove as much of the rust as possible. Before applying any type of treatment and coating

Buy a frame coater kit from KBS (that's what I used), it has everything you need
