1st gens and older are much easier on leafs. 2nd gens you can do, but it’s hard to keep them from being sky scrapers.

here’s my build. We did a 3 link on my buddy’s 1st gen right before we leaf sprung mine. His wasn’t that bad.

Sounds like you need a jeep. If you're doing a solid axle the expensive fabricated axles are way too much for what you can do yourself. Springs are outdated for the front, and more adjustability with links.
There is a ton of work to be done just to get the tacoma ready for an axle swap.
I recommend a sd 60 with either a sterling rear or 14 bolt, plus you can find a sterling with a factory locker. If you're looking to save money then thats the way to go.
You can buy @malburg114 setup and then just run gear drive cases to dump off to passenger side

I wouldn’t be caught dead in a jeep. If I wanted super duty axles I would just drive a super duty. Links would be overkill for me. I just put a fj case in the truck so I’m not changing that. I’ve made up my mind on what I want. I don’t understand why people keep trying to tell me what to spend my money on and what to do with my truck.

Calm it down there sparky, you put a post in the sas side of things and a bunch of guys here have done it and learned. We are just trying to help you navigate. Yes it is your money so you will ultimately have to live with it bud. If we go off of your idea wont get caught in a jeep they come stock with a solid axle, if you wanted to use a superduty axle you would drive a superduty, but you bought a pickup with ifs but want to sas it. Hmmmm.............

My original question was if anyone has got an axle from diamond lately. And some how it turned into what I should do instead which is fine but I’ve explained why I want to go with a fabricated axle over and over and at this point I’m tired of beating a dead horse

I know op doesn’t want any more answers but we will keep the tech going in here because I don’t see it discussed much.

I’m talking about the junkyard 60 vs fabricated housing debate.

if you have a little bit of fab skills, a 9 in fabricated housing with 60 outers will come out to a similar price to a built junkyard 60 axle. Not cheaper in most cases unless you find good deals or shop when there’s discount codes but very close in cost.

when you think about it, your buying a 60 for housing, cs and knuckles. Most will probably be regearing with a locker, chromos, locking hubs, and brakes in most cases. The average 60 I see is anywhere from 800-1500 depending if you want 05+ or kingpin etc.

If you can find a decent deal on a used set of cs and knuckles or even a new set of Reid’s or solids axle industry from someone’s projects, your at about the same cost for fabricated housing with 60 outers as a 60 housing. Gears and lockers are similar cost, use off the shelf shafts, 3/4 ton brakes, etc and your not far off in price.

the part that pushes a 609 vs 60 over in price is the labor if you can’t cut the housing to size for shafts and weld on your cs. I did it in my garage and came out straight with a press in fit using heat to get the cs on.

oh course if you don’t have the Fab skills that’s totally different and labor will set the price over and make a 60 cheaper but not by a significant amount.
