I am at the point in my Tacoma (2010 SR5 4x4 ACLB) ownership where I want to upgrade the looks of the truck. With all of my research I think I will be leaving the truck stock suspension for now and upgrading from 245 75 16 to 265 75 16 AT tires. The rims Im looking at are 16x8 rims with +1 offset 4.5" BS and I want less than an inch of poke. However, I am worried that in the future I may want to do a small lift and then the tires will look small again and I'll be back at square one. Anyone have any experience they could share? Post some pics too? TIA!

I was just in the same boat as you two weeks ago. I ended up pulling the trigger on 17” wheels with 265/70r17 tires.

Extreme happiness has been had ever sense.

Damn that makes me feel better. Wow that looks nice! I wouldn't expect any rubbing but do you have any? So those wheels are a 17x7, Does that affect the width of the tire at all? From what I understand is that they kind of bubble out on the sidewalls which I kind of like for protecting my rims.

I’ll go snap a profile pic of them for you. I got these from the dealership and they said they would be fine. There is only slight rubbing occasionally on the bottom corner of the fender, but that is because I need new front shocks, which will be done soon.

265/75/16 with 16x8 but 0 offset. If you’re like me you’ll be back at square 1 soon enough, but I’m glad I took this route with incremental changes ...

That'd be great, how is the poke on yours? I want less than an inch outside the fender flare

Alright, I think you've persuaded me. That looks like exactly what I had in mind! Appreciate it!

I do - pretty basic. 2” headstrong coils and AAL with bilstein 5100s. I had the truck 15 years and 150k before doing anything. Ride was greatly improved and it looks better. I’d go with your plan, but I also would make sure you try to find a good local alignment shop. If you do rub a good alignment should take care of it.

Im actually a mechanic so I have the advantage of being able to do my own alignments. I wouldnt do more than the whole "leaf pack and bilstein lift scenario" anyway. Appreciate the help!

You mentioned 'small lift' in the future. I run a small lift (1" front, 1.5" rear) with 265/75/16's on an AC. I don't know my wheels backspacing/offset numbers but you can look them up if you want. They are the Toyota OEM "Baja" wheels. I also run a BORA 3/4" spacer and they poke out of the fender no more than 1/2"... if that. Pretty even with the fender i'd say.

thanks a lot for this. I just ordered some 16x8 deerfields and planned on running 265/75s with a 2" lift

Am lookin into 285/70/r16 soon. Tires are getting close. And rear shocks/leafs are squeaking. So prolly major upgrade within the year. But current ones fit no problem. Could probably fit 285s pretty easy. Might have a small rub when steering is cranked

Hacked off exhaust, homemade y pipe, secondary air filter gone, k&n drop in, hp tuners self tune. 2/3 body lift. 4.56 all around.
    285/70/16
3" front/2" rear 3/8" spacers up front to stop the rub. Also the little black trim pieces attached to the fender has to go.

265/75/16 with maybe 2" of lift (I haven't measured since installing the armor and winch several years ago).

Wheels are 16x8.5 with 4.5" backspace 0 offset.
