Cooling issues? Not anymore

I'm only on here to learn and help others out. When forums first started, it was mostly smart DIY folks. Now it's full of SoyBoy safe-place crybabies.

If I were going to install electrics on my Tacoma, I'd start with something like this.

Then put another $100. into a fancy controller.

Nooooo not doorman. Don't ever buy anything doorman. Not even a body plug. Fwiw I have this kit and it works well, never seen a temp over 203. Summer is damn near here so I'll be torture testing it.

 

ok... sorry for loosing my cool. but it seems you came here just to throw shade. if you go back and look through the discussion you will find this isnt a fan kit like you are speaking to. this is not an on off system. this is a closed loop system that is monitoring coolant temperatures directly and is ramping up fans speed as need to maintain a certain temperature. so the fan speed creeps not the coolant temp. this system is also not really for stock trucks. the coolant system toyota developed (although archaic) is fine. but any mods past that, or slow aggressive rock crawling, low speed high temp stuff it really starts to drag the coolant system down as the air flow is directly attached to engine speed. with that there is a parasitic loss on the engine that goes along with HP and torque. since the fan is directly attached to the crank it takes hp and torque to spin and at highway speed when its probably not even needed its taking MPGs. so this kit solves alot of these issues all in one, it oem validated parts, high grade materials and customer tunable.

 

this was the discussion thread during development. i had a sperate thread for the group buy, and moved the sale to my website and offered 100 bucks off for tacoma world guys. as for the vendor thing.... i have been trying for over a year and the moderators have just ignored me soooooo rock and a hard place.

 

also Benjamin please do the research into the difference between Spal, spal PWM fans, and what your posting. there is a reason im not running those fans in my 69 camaro also.

 

Again you're comparing your rotten ass oranges to apples. The fans you keep claiming are the same are far from the same. Great shroud on your half assed electric fan set up it really is utilizing and drawing air through the entire radiator well. You still cannot prove your point that you can put together the SAME for that 300 bucks. May want to learn the meaning of words before you go writing.

 

He won't do any of the research as shown by his constant posting of entry level fans and no switching system. But you know that 30+ yrs experience and dozens of electric swaps makes him know that dorman and others are the best

It's funny because at the bottom of the thread in the realated products it has the actual fan you use for as cheap as you can get it which is 40 bucks more than this magic 300 SAME products he keeps spouting.

 

We've been dancing with the devil with these temps. 100 for a day or two then back down. Very much looking forward to your updates in the coming months. Re-reading this thread has got me looking for $1000. Any more stimmies coming our way? (J/K to those who get offended easily)

 

So far so good! I park my truck with the AC on high, I'm supposed to get off every day around 2:30 (today I got off at 4pm), those times always change, so my truck will idle anywhere from 15-90mins with AC on high in direct sunlight. I'm excited to see how she fairs. So far, no temp over 203.

 

I did a trip to the Kern river this weekend. The drive up no issues with temp at all it hit202 a couple times other then that it was good. The drive home was a little different. We were heading back to Orange County on the 5frwy south hit the grapevine truck hit 202 then 204 then 208 kept climbing started to get a little worried at 216 i wasn't pushing it hard however i had a good load on the truck. It hit 225 and i really got worried the gauge needle was rising and my

scangauge was rising hit 236 and i backed off the pedal slowed to 45mph in 4th it kept getting hotter hit 245 and the temp needle was in the red.Scangauge hit 248 and then needle was pegged and the warning lights came on so i had to pull over. Got out the fan was working but it was cycling high then low. Ambient temp on the grapevine was 81 so not super hot. I just drove around my area Monday and its has some good hills i hit 220 on a couple hills something is not right. I am on the settings that it came preprogrammed with. OP any thoughts should i adjust settings? All connections are tight wiring is solid. I do not have the override connected , i think i will be wiring that up if that doesn't help then back to the stock setup! I do have a new CSF radiator so you would think i wouldn't have any issues with cooling right?

 

Curious what the dealy-o is. Maybe hit up lingenfelter also? Maybe the Hi-Lo is a default strategy when an input is missing?

Man I would have stopped at 225, def should not have let it get that hot.

I hit 225 once and immediately shut it down.

did you turn the heater on full blast?

 

No i was so shocked i didnt think about it!

 

225 isnt bad..... its not good but no engine damage will occur. a z06 vette and the track will run a full tank of fuel stabilized at 230+. but it does seem there might be in an issue with the controller. i DMed you to give me a call and we can talk this thru and see if we can figure this out.

 

hey man i sent you a DM to call me. lets figure this out. we have 2 things that can cause this, stop in flow of fluid or air. we need to figure out if the coolant circuit is working and is the controller and fan working. it sounds like everything was fine and then quickly we had an issue.

the Lingenfelter box fail mode is to go to 100% command. just let the fan go to max to prevent issues.

sory this took a day to get back to you, i have been hella swamped in the shop trying to get a couple of trucks finished.

please check your rad fluid level to start with. i have seen air pockets get trapped in engines and after a day offroading clear and drop the rad level to half or less. let start there but also please give me a call.

 

I did check fluid. Radiator was full and reservoir was normal. I will call you soon.
