My friend blew the rear diff on his Pro-4x at 63,000ish miles. He had an extended warranty on it so it was covered. He had a set of Duratracs on it and they were shockingly loud.

He liked it but is much more pleased with the 4Runner SR5 Premium that replaced it.

@jpereira2 the Xterra won’t baby well IMHO. The back doors are tiny, especially at the bottom. I had a heck of a time getting out when we’d all go out to dinner with it. I can only imagine trying to fit a kid in with the seat.

Yea, rear doors that go with the rear wheel wells are awful lol. Add the tub they use for wranglers and it's even worse.

Let’s not discuss the Wrangler. It drives me bonkers that the Gladiator uses the Wrangler rear doors where there is zero reason to chop into the door that much.

Got home a little early today and threw the Fox 2.0’s on the rear. The fronts made a big improvement on the ride quality so I bellied up and bought the matching rears. Should have just bought them from the get go...

    good point about the giblets.

did your friend buy it used? People who use them as rentals beat the piss out of them. Exploding diffs from towing over max doesn’t happen until down the road after hertz has sent it back and some poor sap buys something that’s been ragged on and towing for the past 20k miles.

I’m all for the used market but if any of those prior owners are rental companies it’s a strong no from me

I should still order Bilsteins for the back of mine but I have been spending too much money lately. I get a few hundred bucks in longevity for the last pay of our year (2nd pay in June). I remembered that and got excited, then I added things up and realized I had actually already spent it.

Meh, all of my Fords started their life as a fleet vehicle but, unless you had the records, you’d never know it. Some of the rental companies keep them for 5-10k miles and unload them and you can get some big savings as a result. If it’s still new and low miles, I wouldn’t shy away from a fleet vehicle if it’s priced accordingly. I wouldn’t buy an ex fleet vehicle out of warranty though...
If the rear shocks for the 150 and 250 are the same, I know where you can get a good deal on a set of 4600’s :stirthepot:

My last Frontier, SE had the C200 rear.. no issues to almost 200k.
All the 6 speeds had the m226(D44). The open m226 could be fitted with the TruTrac.. had one on the front diff of my last jeep... worth it.

They're plastic. But, while not as "nice" or fancy as my Tacoma, it doesn't feel any less durable.

All in all, the Tacoma and Frontier are pretty comparable. Boils down to preference.

Yep. Crappy vent design. Would blow axle or pinion seals.

    Regardless... a p4x or 6speed will have the m226(d44)...
Do the same vent mod we do with tacoma, and send it...

Just wish mine had more miles, and I could find my way through Mass inspections... a VK56 swap into my truck would be fun...bolts right in.

Same thing some say about leases, but at 3 years and under 7k miles I couldn't say no. 117K and other than the frame it's been great.

Same re out of warranty, but I've driven a few fleet vehicles I bought cheaply.

Oddly, in my attempt to get a rental I learned there isn't much call for trucks at least in my litle slice of life

seems like a good suv. That 4.0 pulls hard and seems to make really good power.
    Bought it.
    Wife will hate it lol

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma

I'm not just making this up. The plastics in the Nissans dash are a problem. The center section breaks regularly and are very expensive to replace.

Wasnt even that though, the pinion bearings would start going and then if not taken care of it would start destroying the pinion

Never said ya were. Anything can break. Especially in the hands of certain people.

I don't find it any more brittle than any other dash plastic I have taken off.

Gotcha. Were they pro4s? Only significant issue I really know of, was radiator related. The Heat exchanger for the automatic trans could/would crack, allowing coolant into the transmission. But, been a non-issue since 2010. And earlier timing chain tensioners.
And I am not aware of every little issue either.

Its all good. They're good trucks. Not as nice in fit and finish as the Tacoma. I'm sure the t4r is better.
I have zero brand loyalty to ANY manufacturer. Concerns are weighed with cost/cost of ownership, reliability, driving, etc.
Biggest gripe with my Frontier? Turning radius of a damn city bus...
Edit, also that stupid lug pattern on the xterra and frontier...

    :pccoffee:

is the turning radius that noticeable vs a Tacoma? The Tacoma only has like a couple feet on it in the range of like 20 feet so I never really thought that would make a significant difference in the practical world.

Sorta, not really. Tight parking lots I notice it. I mean, I NOTICE, but...
My old DCLB was terrible. Wife hated parking it.
