Oh for sure all about making it your own. I added the sport/pro hood, pro grill, fog lights and will also be swapping headlights and tailights to match the pro or sport but i custom made my SR badge, partly because that's what the trim is and still proud of it and what i could afford. Partly to not be called a poser because i see sooo many do it on the forums. Just wasn't sure why put a TRD decal on a non trd rig. Unless maybe you've added the components that would make it a TRD offroad. I almost made mine a SR5 decal because the original SR5 was labeled such being a Sport Rally 5 speed and my SR is a 5 speed lol

So glad I found this thread! I'm looking at getting a 2021 SR and have a couple questions. Love the idea of starting base and building it just how I want. I did a deep dive into this thread (and several others) so apologies if this is already readily available somewhere on the site. Just so much info, I'm on overload!

    - It looks like 265/75/16 (leaning duratrac) will run on stock with no rubbing, etc. Is that true only for stock wheels or Toyota branded 16"? Is it the same for a third party wheel such as the KMC Enduro? Trying to understand what options I have. https://www.4wheelparts.com/p/kmc-k...MIyZri9ZHH8AIVkvLjBx0XHw-bEAQYAiABEgKtevD_BwE

    - I'll need to do light to intermediate trail off roading. I'd say 1-5 out of 10 on a trail difficulty scale. Would the stock SR be able to handle this? (with off-road tires) or is it best to get some type of 2 or 3" lift? Or skip the SR and go for a used TRD off-road trim? (i can't afford the OR new)

Thanks for any helpful info! Excited to share my build once I pull the trigger

I recommend starting with a new SR, these trucks are very capable stock + good tires. If/when you find a limiting factor, modify and keep going. Adding some underbody protection like skid plates is a smart move when cruising trails no matter what trim level you get.

Thanks so much for the help!!

I put down a deposit on an SR (month out). But weighing sticking with it or getting a fully kitted out/custom rebuilt title OR or Sport from these guys in SLC that specialize in rebuilds:

Looking good! May I ask what bed rack and roof top tent you have?

    Hey Flyers!

I DO like them, but it's taking me a few to get used to them as well. Mainly because I drove a Ford Explorer for work my last 4 years, and they too had the built in mirrors, but just a little bit different set up. The mirror in those was in the upper outside corners and these are the lower outside corners. Super easy to install and really good quality. Night and day difference over the stock mirrors, and with the SR model not having a BSM feature (which I'm fine with, never have liked BSM's) opens up your side view quite a bit!

Just bought my first Taco so I'm new here. Thought I'd share my 2017 SR5. First thing I did was have the wheels powder coated a matte black, then blacked out all the chrome except for the T. Also added Nerf bars. How am I doing so far?

Looks great, if you don't mind me asking, how much did it cost to powder coat the wheels? Those wheels look so much better black.

I would have went with rocksliders instead of nerf bars but only if you plan to go offroading. Love the blue and black combo.

I have a small local shop I use here in the suburbs of St. Louis. They were $500.00. I agree I like them in the matte black. So easy to clean and they don't look like everyone else's.

The rack is homemade out of aluminum square tub and L-Clips
The tent is a cheaper tent from Tuff-Stuff called Trailhead.

I don't do much offroading so the Nerfs were fine for me. I just needed a way to get my fat butt into the cab. Thanks I'm a big fan of blue and black together.

If you ever wondered how to remove the back molding on the SR access cab (2019 in my case) or just what is back there... your wait is over. There are alot of anchor points that are open holes and many that are threaded to... I myself just sound proofed.... to remove that panel just pull carefully and its somewhat tricky putting it back and lining up those holes but if you start on the bottom and work up its definitely doable.
