Throttle Sticking

I took your advice. It fell to the floor.

 

I yanked it off and fortunately saved the original bolts. I’m thinking the same as you after looking at it. The electronics for the throttle body are of course right in front of where the spacer was. I could see that sucking and whirling and keeping a valve it what ever from closing. We shall see what happens on the road.

 

I’m gonna go with an opposite stance from everyone else here.



you should leave your truck the exact way it is, and take it into the dealership with your complaint. Because.... sometimes common sense just needs to kick you in the head some times

 

Lol yep.
OP just leave the mods to the professionals. Toyota spends a billion on R&D. That company spends $250. Your choice.

 

Update - I spoke to a tech at AFE Power today regarding the possibility of their throttle body spacer hanging up my throttle. It seems I Incorrectly installed a think gasket between the motor and the spacer. The gasket goes between the throttle body and the spacer, not the motor. He said that gasket could hang up the throttle butterfly valve if installed wrongly. Apparently I’m not the first and there was no instructions. I’ll give that a try just for fun! Thanks All for the advice.

 

You will probably get more HP and a better running engine if you just leave that part off and go back to OEM. Think about this...if Toyota could add a $0.50 part to their engine to increase power or mileage, don't you think that would have happened? It looks cool and all but that aftermarket part is snake oil.

 

I Appreciate the input and I already took the spacer off. Taking all the above into consideration, there doesn’t seem to be a lot of rave reviews in favor of it. Thanks again

 

Not trying to ride you on this, but...
Were you aware there is a valve in the intake manifold that changes between long and short intake runners? Toyota engineers recognized the engine favors different intake flows depending on what's being required of it. A throttle body spacer would be contrary to that goal.

 

to be totally honest, no I’m not a mechanic. I have done a fine job adding suspension but that’s mostly nuts, bolts and shocks. Im not an expert under the hood. I never even thought about long vs short intake runners. I simply added a CAI to my truck and was sold on the additional spacer part. I did not realize the throttle electronics were located inside the throttle body next to the spacer. Now I understand, thanks to the input of everyone whom offered assistance. That’s why I love this group and forum. Seek an answer and you get a variety of input so the scenario can get resolved!! Thanks again
