I have read a few things on here about towing with a Tacoma mine is a 2008 access cab with the factory tow package giving me a tow rating of 6500 pounds. I came up on orders for fort Stewart I’m down by Tuscan aZ area and need to pull my 1990 Jeep Cherokee with a curb weight of about 3500 But I’ll round up to about 4000. Is it safe to tow this about 1,997 mile trip or should I just pay the 1200 and get the Jeep shipped to my new place in Ga. thanks for any help in advance

That’s a pretty far trip with that much weight. I’ve pulled a camper just shy of 4000 with my 07 prerunner from Arkansas to Texas. I made it ok and it wasn’t too bad but you could definitely feel it back there especially going through the curves of Arkansas

I'd get rid of the the 90 Cherokee. I guess you want to keep it, maybe the Jeep is in good shape, and or built.

I wouldn't want to tow a Cherokee with a Tacoma.

If the jeep runs well, have a buddy or family member drive it out while you drive your Taco. Then they could fly, take a train, hitchhike or walk back.

Ship it. That’s a long tow and towing a vehicle and that much weight is a real pita. Also while towing that, your gas mileage will probably be only about 10 mpg. Yes your truck will do it but it certainly won’t be a pleasurable or enjoyable trip. If it were me I’d definitely ship it (or sell it). Ship it and enjoy the the sites on your trip.

Basics. Tires, painted headlighes, UHLM, baby winch in the bed, and heated mirrors :)
    Food for thought:

4000 is now my upper limit of what I'd wanna haul for a long trip, and keep in mind that the Uhaul car trailers are HEAVY, about 2200lbs empty iirc. I towed a 3000lb car on one of them about 550 miles last summer and it was NOT fun. 5200lb total, truck is rated for 6500. Even with a 6speed and not having to worry about sending a torque converter into orbit, it was a grueling 11-hour drive. Like, standing on the gas in 2nd or 3rd gear to maintain 45-55mph on any incline. Burned through ~70gals of gas in those 550 miles. And my clutch still hates me for the couple hours i was stuck in stop-and-go traffic as well.

And you'd be looking at another 1000lbs on top of that, so riiight at the max tow rating. The truck could probably do it. But it'll be extremely taxing and if you have any love for your taco, I'd just ship or sell the jeep.
