Any tips on getting the door lock to work? Shot a bunch of graphite in there, it will lock but major effort required to unlock. Works fine on the inside. Always worried I’ll snap the key off trying to get it to unlock so it stays unlocked in public.2BF81285-1A70-4503-B0C7-7B6C71890549.jpg

If I remember right the wire on first gens to lock/unlock has to be protected when doing something like sound deadening or it can get stuck and be hard to move back and forth. You might be able to pull the inside panel and see something similar (wire stuck) or at least have a better view of possible problems?

@miamijime aren't your inside door panels already pulled?

Could just be the lock cylinder itself being super old.

Driver’s side I took off to lubricate the crank window. And put in soundproofing since you’d think you were inside a washing machine. Oddly it’s quiet on the outside. Anyway here’s the inside latch in action. I hate to change the cylinder cause then I’d have a door key and an ignition key.https://youtube.com/shorts/mwphWtngf_w?feature=share

Any reason you used graphite instead of a wet lube? That would be the only thing left I could think of that might make a difference. TRI flow has worked well on uniballs for other people and it is my favorite for all around stuff

I just thought graphite was the best thing for locks. Open to using your suggestion though! I’ve got something in a spray can for my TC uniballs, something to do with Teflon.

Does it look like the cylinder is serviceable? Could you redo the bidding to fit your current key? I imagine if cleaning it out doesn't help, the pins may be worn.

Definitely don't use a wet lube on a lock. Graphite only unless you're gutting it to clean, or if you plan on gutting it. Because you'll need to soon after lol

Graphite becomes wet lube when it rains...

But it isn't water soluble and doesn't have the tendency to collect debris or leave a residue from evaporation. It is also pretty chemically inactive so chances of oxidation and other issues are minimized.

    Maybe.

All true. I just know when it's super humid and graphite is involved, it *can* get a little goopy.

    That patina tho... :jerkoff:
