Hello! New to the forum... Found this site by searching for my issue, but I'm not finding a good answer. I just bought a used 2016 Tacoma SR5 with an XP package, but I just realized that my dome lights do not work. The vanity lights work though. I changed the fuse and nothing changes. None of the other interior lights work. Are the vanity lights on the same fuse as the dome lights?

Dome and vanities should be on the same circuit. Have you multimetered the dome light to see if it's getting voltage?

Thanks for the reply. I haven't, but I'll try it this evening. What would cause it to not have any voltage?

    Welcome to the forum!

It sounds obvious but make sure the dash switch for the dome lights on the dash is in the 'door' or 'on' position and that the switch on the dome light it's self (the light in the center of your roof) is also set to 'door' or 'on'.

I just went and reread, and realized your maps are out too. Hopefully its something simple, like the plug in your overhead console worked its way loose. Or it might be a bad fixture that needs chasing.

And to make sure, you checked and replaced this fuse, correct?

I've turned the switch off, on, and door. No lights, in front or back seat come on. Map lights won't turn on. And yes, that is the fuse that I replaced. It's just weird that only the vanity lights work.

    Both switches, right?

Also, here is another foolish question. Is there anything aftermarket on the truck? A lot of people will tap their dash-cam into that circuit, for example. Are you the original owner?

Dome light (middle of ceiling) and map lights (overhead panel near windshield) both do not work? Or just the dome light? If just the dome light I would check for a burned out bulb.

Edit, I just reread and you said no lights come on.

Yes, both switches. I have both set to door. I am not the original owner. There is currently nothing aftermarket. I'm not sure if they had replaced the radio before or not.

Correct, dome and map lights both do not work.

Ok. Then the next step for me would be to pull the overhead where the map lights are. Make sure the plugs are in tight, see if its pulling electricity. Maybe take a glance at the wires for possible evidence of where a vampire tap used to be.

Your mirror has a compass readout, right? Does that work?

The mirror compass does work. The mic for handsfree works.
Another thing to note, while I was test driving this vehicle, I noticed that the blinkers, both left and right, were blinking really fast. Neither side was out though. So I replaced only the rear bulbs. They were LED lights. Not sure if the truck comes standard with LEDs, I don't think it does, except for certain lights. I replaced with regular bulbs and the blinkers worked like normal. I have seen a lot of LED light kits for the Tacomas. Just curious if these could be the issue if the previous owner installed one of these kits.

Oh yeah. Then double check the interior bulbs.

Nothing on the 2016 was LED. And it is super sensitive on certain circuits. Directly swapping bulbs without taking the time to install resistors (so that it simulates the draw of an incandescent) has caused a lot of heartache for people.

You could take off the covers for the dome and map lights and see what's in there.

You are the winner. No bulbs. Why didn't I check that before? Lol.

previous owner probably had LED's and took them out when it sold. Lame

but glad that's all it was

And it continues. Dome light is fine. Before that, I'm sitting in a drive thru and think I'm going to plug a bulb into the driver's side map light. There's nothing to plug it in to. It seems like I'm buying the wrong lights.

Damn That sucks. I might have my stock maps from where I upgraded to MESO's stuff. I'll check when I get home.
