So it's a pretty common mod to remove the rear seats for something functional and lower profile, is there a reason I've never seen someone remove and or cut out the bins?

The stamped steel frame is relatively flimsy, though I can theoretically see it being "structural" it really doesn't seem like a load bearing member, especially since it's not really tied into anything other than the floor in some places.

Seems like a lot of useable room could be freed up by full on removal of this area over just your typical seat delete.

I've pulled the plastic "tray" out before and. It really limits the amount of useable room in that area but if you don't want something to get lost in the crevices it has to stay in there, not that it's useful for much either way.

Just curious if anyone has ever done this?

Seems to be a lot of extra work for little gain.

I mean, that could be said about most mods, I know I have spent a lot more time doing dumber things for this truck, I'm sure a lot of people have, and the amount of money folks spend on Goose Gear platforms or making their own...

    :notsure:

Plus freeing up over 3 cubic feet in an already tiny cab isn't nothing.

This would just be one of those mods that you can't easily reverse so wondering if there's a solid reason to not do it I haven't considered.

Eh, there will still be the hump for the transmission in the middle right? I could see this being worthwhile if you could have the entire back area flat. I would build (like most people do) a platform that retains access to the storage cubbies.

3rd gen here but it's been done if you look around.
    here's mine.
taking out the sheet metal is a matter of just cutting through the spot welds, about 10 min of work if you use a carbide burr like i did.
