Out wheeling and popped the half shaft out of the diff side CV cup. Half shaft is gone for.

Easy way to limp home? Can I knock the half shaft out of the when side CV cup?

Are you in a offchute or on the fire road? You should probably edit the title to "stuck on Cleghorn "

I'm on the main trail that goes from the 15 and dumps out at Silverwood lake.

So no hope of trying to slam the half shaft out of the outboard CV cup with a 4lb hammer?

Can you get out of 4wd and use wire or zip ties to hold it as center as you can to get off the trail and then get it towed

There's a fb page called SCOR (SoCal off-road Recovery). Someone might be able to help you there. I would come out to try and help but I'm not in area this weekend /:

I think @EatSleepTacos might have done something like this once?
I think there is a way to “make it work”.
But you’ll for sure need to retain the hub side shaft with axle nut.

I'm not sure how the halfshafts are held together on the outboard side but would it be possible to cut open the boot on the outboard side (nearest knuckle) and remove the axle shaft itself and go home in 2wd?

I think that’s basically what one of the other member on here did.
I’m looking for his post on it currently, if I find it. I’ll post it.

On the diff side, there is nothing that holds the joint together, hence why it slipped out. I would just slip it back in there and head to the nearest auto parts store.

you’ll likely need to remove the cv axle from the spindle to get it back in, then reinstall.

If you can get it to seat back in the cup you may be able to limp it off the trail. Or get someone to run to autozone for a replacement CV, not a terribly hard trail fix.
