Why are trains electric? Yeah I know some have diesel generators but the drive system is electric then there are the overhead wire ones. A DC motor has immense torque from dead stand still to full RPM smooth, quiet and efficient. The technology improves daily personally I would love to have an electric Tacoma and I live in the boonies my house does have running water and electricity you know the kinds of stuff that charges batteries. Wouldn't be cool to have a zero to 60 in 2 seconds Tacoma or creeping over rocks with the same torque.

The trend now is to use high voltage three phase motors in autos. DC motors have a tendency to run away (same as ICE)once load is reduced and this results in uncontrolled wheel spin without intervention. Wheelspin is still a problem on electric and hybrid vehicles with a single 3 phase motor feeding two wheels via open differential. However, if each wheel had it's own motor then all wheels would spin at essentially the same speed regardless of traction. Ultimate rock crawler!

In a couple years when I'm on the trail in my hydrogen/electric hybrid Tacoma, I'm going to bring Jerry Cans of gas for you guys, no worries. And for those Furd lovers found on the road depleted, I'm going to also carry a Jerry Can shaped battery pack that plugs into your aux cable that I'm about to patent and sell- you seen it first here.

I'll just start the hydrogen/solar powered generator while I wait for you to come back with some gas that won't run my truck any way.

It’s such a riot. Better minds than ours are both anticipating these and many other issues and brainstorming solutions. The whole “I can’t figure...” mindset is a joke so stop worrying about it, it’s way over your pay grade.

While I wouldn’t go so far as to speculate about what they’re doing, I will say Toyota sold an EV RAV4 in the late 90s (25 years ago!). I wish they had leaned hard into that, or hybrids like the prius (also almost 25yrs now) across their lineup. 1st gen Taco with crazy mpg & torque would have been awesome.

Maybe that gasoline wait time is a Cali thing.... like lot's of things, lol.

I am 50 years old and have never ever waited a second in line for gas unless I was in a boat.

The pipeline fear hit us hard. I had friends waiting for 45 minutes. Granted people don’t know how to queue in the south, so some people wouldn’t go to pumps available because their gas tank access was on the wrong side, so traffic was backed up into the road.

The worst part of the entire pipe line thing there was no shortage just a bunch of panicked people that remembered the long lines waiting for the toilet paper truck at Walmart. Pretty bad when you are reduced to caring gasoline in plastic bags so you can mow your yard.

It’s a thing wherever you have high population density. Sure, Cali has by far the highest population so it’s going to be common in the burbs here and on the routes leading to/from popular destinations but it’s a population thing, nothing more. Several counties here have higher populations than some states.

Toyota could be testing a BEV Tacoma here in the US right now. There could be a 3rd gen test mule riding around with a coffin in the bed, and the batteries are hidden with in that coffin.

Well, I have lived in 3 counties in my life. Orange County, CA (VERY high pop), Denver County (VERY high pop), and Jefferson County (medium pop).

I guess I have been lucky or I have known the good gas stations all my life, lol. In high pop arears, in my experience, there are many times 2 stations, 1 on each side of the street. Waiting in line is like... the most annoying thing in my life, thus not something I would forget. Just not my experience... ever, I guess.

Yeah , lucky you. It’s not an all day thing but certainly an everyday occurrence. How would you know just how annoying it is if it never, ever, happened to you? How long have you been living in Morrison,Co pop~500? I’ve seen gas lines at various times here since I started driving mid ‘70’s and the oil embargo. Also Portland, Denver, & Longmont. Hard to call 3 cars a line but it’s definitely not “no waiting at all” and accounts for an extra 15 miniutes minimum whenever it happens. Stations flat close up altogether sometimes and don’t tell that doesn’t happen in every state from snow, ice, tornados, hurricanes, or just store “hours”. I’ve waited 5 minutes just for some dickhead to just put the seat belt on and drive off. People tend to forget those minor inconveniences until it’s time to dump them on the next thing that might cause them. 100% of marriages would fail if they didn’t.
