Just put down a deposit on a 2021 Tacoma TRD Off-road and will get it in June. I am very excited.

I am hesitant to get the extended warranty because I know that I want to do a CMC to fit 35 in. tires and am concerned if that will void it. Also, I don't know how I feel about the extended warranty in general. Should I get the extended warranty?

With the CMC you might as well just put the $1500 aside in case you have problems and skip the extended warranty .

The warranty wouldn't cover anything directly related to the frame in that area. Running 35s though, if you have any drive train issues they'll point to the larger tires.

I got my extended for free with a little haggling, but pretty useless now that I welded on sliders and will be doing a cab mount relocation soon too. Regardless, they'll find a way to void your warranty. Just had a buddy blow his rear diff @ 52k miles and Toyota is claiming it's something he did/modified. Any chance they get they will void or say it's not under warranty.

My buddy who was a car salesman told me that dealerships really push extended warranty because they are a big money maker for them: commission for selling the warranty and then paid to fix things under warranty.

I told the dealership paperwork guy that I am not buying an extended warranty, I'm buying a Toyota. He countered with: after the engine and transmission the next most expensive item is the infotainment screen/navigation/stereo head unit which because of the electronics does not have the same Toyota reliability. I still declined because the cost of the warranty was about half the cost of the head unit; but that warranty price could easily cover the cost of an after market stereo, and I already have a 12v portable Garmin Navigator for my other car and truck.
